What is the meaning behind the red circles with the slash through them to the left of certain shows? I am trying to transfer most of those shows to my Mac, running 10.5.4. Any insight would be super appreciated, I have searched to no avail!

Means the content provider has set the flag prohibiting their transfer.

I see this mostly on HBO,STARZ etc

Wow, those S.O.B.'s!! Well thanks for clearing that up, I was going nuts trying to figure that out!

Jeez, I wish it were only HBO, etc for me. Virtually everything I have taped is flagged. I just go my TivotoGo working and out of the 82 programs I have recorded, only about 10 were transferable.

Jeez!

Never had problem with HBO programs. But the Showtime programs that I TiVo all have that red, back-slashed circle (aka international "do not" sign). Don't know about Starz... never watch it.

bp888: Sounds like either you're still analog, or your provider isn't obeying HBO's directive.

I thought that this couldn't be done on stations that are available OTA, but shows from my local CBS and PBS affiliates sometimes come up as no copy.

That is annoying.

It's definitely digital and HD... Channel 770 on my Comcast lineup.

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but not only are they not transferrable, I can't get my dvd recorder to finalize recordings made from those shows. This means I can only play those recordings on *that* dvd recorder/player and not on any other. Can HBO actually do that? I mean is it technically possible?

If you have an unmodified DVD recorder and no "signal conditioner", the copy protection flags will prevent the DVD recorder from recording at all, not from finalizing a recording allowed to happen.

Well, it seems to be recording all right, but it locks up when I go to finalize the recording. It's a Panasonic DVD/VHS recorder. Pardon my ignorance, but what do you mean by "signal conditioner"?
