Wow. Interesting concept, interesting actors. I never thought I would say this about Peterson leaving, but I'm actually really interested in the show for the first time in years.

I'd planned to drop CSI once he departed and get back an hour wasted watching TV. Now with those casting possibilities, thanks for ruining my plan.

Wow. I'm not a big fan of CSI, but I'll be watching the first couple episodes with him just to see how it is. I really enjoy him as an actor.

Ugh, I am not a fan of Laurence Fishburne. While CSI has gotten a little stale over the years, it's been William Petersen that's kept me watching. If Fishburne takes over, I'm probably out. John Malkovich on the other hand, that would be awesome.

Discussion of the article:
"the new character, described as a doctor/scientist outsider to the CSI unit who has the same genetic profile as a serial killer but hasn't previously acted on any homicidal impulses."

So babies are born as serial killers?

This reminds me of Blade, a vampire hunter who is a human with vampire genes. Kind of a lame idea for CSI if you ask me.

I also read somewhere that Kurt Russell and John Malkovich were being considered as well.

Like on the link in the original post? That's where I saw it.

CNN is reporting that Laurence Fishburne has now been cast in the role http://www.cnn.com/2008/SHOWBIZ/TV/08/18/csi.fishburne.ap/index.html.

I like LF in this role. I think he will be good. But alas, it's Grey's Anatomy and Kitchen Nightmares on our tuners.

I'm really disliking CSI without WP. LF is getting way too much screen time and they seem to be focusing on his character rather than the entire cast solving a case. Any other opinions on the show since WP's departure?

I think LF is awesome. I miss WP, but am not enjoying the show any less.

I disagree. Since WP left, secondary characters like Wendy and Hodges have gotten more screen time then ever. CSI after WP is even more of an ensemble show than it was with him.

I agree with both statements, but I'm with hummingbird, I prefer CSI with WP, and it's wobbling on my giving up on it. That being said, I do feel the ensemble is a lot stronger then it used to be, in a positive way.

I think it's been a long time since WIlliam Peterson was at the top of his game in this show. Fishburne now is probably on more or less the same level as Peterson recently. I'm willing to give him time to grow into the role.

The loss of Sara and Warrick combined with Grissoms loss has really changed the show...

Thinking more about it, guess I'd have to agree with this.:o Maybe I'm just blaming LF for my general dissatisfaction with the show since WP left.

I'll keep the SP, but rather than being one of the first shows I view on Friday it will probably get viewed late on Sunday.

+1. I'm just not liking the change. Maybe if I hang in there it will get back to being a show I love.

I probably began to tire of WP's character about the same time he did. The last couple seasons he just seemed... Sad. In more ways than one... ;)

I was happy when the reports were true about LF. He's a good actor and a fitting replacement for WP. The show seems odd without Petersen at the proverbial helm, but if the scripts continue to be interesting I'm still in, and it's still on my "A List".

I think almost all of the LF shows have had very very strong writing. Loving CSI right now.

Ugh, I am not a fan of Laurence Fishburne.Quoting myself here, eight months later. I have to say that I really like Fishburne on CSI. His awful performances in the Matrix movies really lowered my opinion of his acting skills, but maybe that was a fluke.

The writing seems to have improved since he came on board.

His character just doesn't make sense.

From Physician, to Professor to entry level CSI ??? I have a hard time getting over that part.

But you never had a problem with the core premise of the show? CSI people running around like they are homicide detectives?

Having him be entry-level is genius. It almost reboots the show, allowing them to focus a bit more on the basic forensics science that attracted me to the show in the first place.

It also seems to me that they're slowly moving him up in rank and he's growing a little more confident. He called a suspect "son" in the most recent episode, something he wouldn't have said previously.

The fact that he was a physician first actually makes it easier to believe than if he had just gone from being a professor to entry-level CSI.

I've known people like that, who are very smart but have trouble finding their way. A friend of mine went from being a physician to being a counter person at the public library. Today, she's the director of the county library system.

I don't. You expect him to come in at a level close to Stokes or even Greg (the lab tech turned CSI)? People change professions all the time even with the paycut, take Kal Penn for example, if it something you want to do you will be willing to take the cut.

So far I've been liking the LF episodes. And they seem to have been making sure to provide them on a very regular basis.
