View Full Version : Way to Change How Much Space the Deleted Shows Takes Up?

Is there a way to reduce the percentage of my storage that goes to the Deleted Shows folder?

I have shows that I want to watch that have the Yellow Dot, with exclamation point, while I still have shows in the Deleted Shows folder. I don't see why a show should almost be deleted when I have the space to keep it. How do I know I have the space to keep it? Because I can see 20 shows in my Deleted Shows folder.

I think it should start deleting the shows in the Deleted Shows folder until I no longer have any yellow circles. When it then runs out of space, THEN show me some yellow circles.

The yellow dot with exclamation mark shows up after two days. It doesn't mean imminent deletion. It only means that after two days the recording is eligible to be deleted. The reality is that the recording could remain on your now playing list forever as long as there are recordings in the suggestions folder or recently deleted folder that will be permanently deleted first.

Unless the OP has a relatively full hard drive, even if the yellow circle with the exclamation mark appears next to a program, the likelihood of that program being deleted is low. When I first upgraded my Series 2 TiVo's drive to 500 GB, I had (and still have) programs with this flag that have been that way for MONTHS.

The TiVo won't start deleting anything until it thinks that hard drive space is starting to run low for the amount of programming that it has been scheduled to record. When that happens, as mentioned already it first goes for items in the Deleted Items folder and the Suggestions folder, before programs with the exclamation mark end up in the crosshairs.

If the OP is concerned that his programs are ending up with the exclamation mark flag before he can view them, he should extend the "Keep Until" time on his season passes to something that he feels more comfortable with.

When I first got a Tivo, those yellow dots made me paranoid.
When they appeared, I would go in and reset the ''keep until'' date to get rid of them.

Now I don't bother with it.
You'll eventually get used to them, too.

@steve614, that's pretty much what it is... just paranoia.

And now that I have learned from all of you that those shows should not disappear if there are any shows in the Deleted Shows folder, I'm fine.

Thanks all!
