I've just made it through disc 1. How much longer does this Parker nonsense go on for?

Too long.

But, it ends pretty abruptly, thank God.

Isn't it only three or four episodes, Dana? Perhaps you are thinking of Riley?

Yeah, well that's what you get when you're forced to write a propaganda piece to get PSA credits (http://www.commercialalert.org/news/Archive/2000/01/prime-time-propaganda-how-the-white-house-secretly-hooked-network-tv-on-its-anti-drug-message). ;)

I knew that Home Improvement subplot revolving around Brad's drug use was pulled out of someone's ass...

Season 4 was my least favorite season.

My order goes like this

Season 3
Season 5
Season 2
Season 7
Season 6
Season 1
Season 4

Not that long. He definitely was a prick. But Season 4 is actually much better during a DVD viewing marathon. I remember when it first aired no one knew what exactly was going on and was bitching that stuff was being made up on the spot, but it all comes together towards the end.

[Parker] definitely was a prick.

See, I think Parker always got a bad rap in that regard.

He certainly sucked as a character in terms of being interesting and compelling for the story and plot, but the guy himself is painted as some kind of bad guy when all he really was was a bit of cad.

Some college dude using smooth lines just to get into a underclassman's pants? Not exactly Bin Laden, folks. Unless you're in the Buffyverse, that is.

Don't get me wrong, I love Joss and all his work, but my one beef with him is that he treats misogny like it's genocide.

I'm in the middle of that Superstar episode featuring Jonathan. Um, yeah, that was kinda out of left field...

That's probably one of my favorites from that season.

To this day, I'll be driving home from work and my wife will call to say "Buffy want beer!"... no more words needed.

Ah, yes, "Superstar" - I *love* that episode. It only gets better on repeated viewings. I remember thinking "WTF?" when it first aired, though, thinking that I had missed something rather major.

And yes, like almost everything else in the show that seemed out of whack at first, it is foreshadowing for future events.

It's been a while... remind me again what the foreshadowing in Superstar was?

Oh, you probably should spoiler it. :)

RBlount alluded to it in the post above me, but, to elaborate:

"Superstar" is the first time we learn of Jonathan's magical proclivities, and his willingness to use to this ability to try and gain acceptance and affection. That, coupled with the loneliness and despair that we saw in "Earshot" in S3 sets the stage for him becoming part of the Nerds of Doom in S6.

Plus, "Superstar" is the first time we learn of the the alternate universes that contain both a world without shrimp and a world that is populated entirely by shrimp, which is a callback joke used later in both Buffy and Angel. :D

Oh okay... that's more like character development than foreshadowing though. I thought there was a specific future event that was being alluded to that I had forgotten.

I would argue that it's both, but tomayto/tomahto...
