After tonight down to the final 4. This is going to be a tough one. I would think Joshua and Katee are shoe-in's for the finals but you never know.
New prize added for the winner. Whoever wins gets to be in Adam Shankman's new movie.
Nigel talking to the 3 couples about how they have to be prepared for rejection in the business. Nigel said all the contestants polled over 1,000,000 votes each. All the judges adding input now.
Al of them will be dancing solos tonight.
Courtney- Not a bad solo. Similar to her others.
Mark- Too quirky I don't like the quirky solos sorry..
Katee- Pretty decent but not super strong.
Joshua- A little on the dull side for Joshua. No more braces for Joshua.
Chelsie- I think its the first solo by Chelsie I somewhat enjoyed.
Twitch- It was okay, a bit weak but okay.
Performance by Little D-man? He's a little kid who might be a SYTYCD future contestant.
Results time...
Katee is safe and very deserving.
Joshua is safe DUHHH! and also very deserving.
Performance time by Lady Ga Ga.... Okay never heard of her.
Courtney or Chelsie staying.... Courtney stays, Chelsie is going home.
Mark or Twitch staying.... Twitch stays, Mark is going home. I think both moves were the right moves..

Hi, SYTYCD fans! I've got another dumb question for ya'll...I did a search for "judges" and couldn't find where you've discussed this if you have. I noticed last year that when Cat says "judges", it comes out more like "jdges". Is this why she never says "judges" anymore but lets the audience say it? If so, was this her idea or the producer's? I sure do have a lot of dumb questions, don't I?

Not sure but she has a problem saying words that end in a as well. Like "Ameriker", "Tabither", "Jessiker" etc. I think its just a British thing. Nigel does it sometimes too.

I think its just a British thing.
Yeah...I figured it has to do with her British accent. I think it's cute, though, and she should be proud of it!!

Yeah she has a very cute personality and cute everything. I wish she would replace Seacrest as host of AI! :D

Opening number - Contemporary, Mandy Moore - wow. Chelsie was WAY off on the choreography, unless it wasn't meant to be synchronous.
Solos -
Courtney - beautiful. SO much better than last night's! I'm sure the fact that they weren't dancing has something to do with it.
Mark - The jerky-quirky movement just does nothing for me.
Katee - She is so gorgeous. Not a wasted movement, not a lost expression. I loved her solo.
Joshua - Wow. He makes it look easy, but he's SO strong.
Chelsie - Eh. Did nothing for me. LOTS of energy, but other than that, eh.
Twitch - He LOOKED like Bobby McFerrin. :) Made me smile.
So my bottom 2 are still Chelsie & Mark. I can see Twitch going, though, too.
Ok, this little kid is pretty darn impressive. What is he, 6?? Sheesh. Wow. Did I call the age or what. :)
Fast forward through Lady Ga Ga.
And goners this evening:
Chelsie
Mark
Wow. I called it, but I'm really surprised that it went the way I thought it should
Next week's going to be fun.

Side note about Cat, I was thinking as I was watching someone needs to snatch her up to host a red carpet she would be awesome with celebrities.
Finale should be fun and I am interested to see what they do...at this point if Josh or Katee win then it will be a good season.

I seem to remember somebody making fun of the way she said "judges" last year, and ever since then, she's let the audience say it for her.

I don't think the British consider it a "problem".

Yeah, but I wish she would just say it herself now. It's way overdone.
Also, I had a strong feeling it was Chelsie and Mark because before they did their solos Cat said something like "this may be the last time he/she dances on this stage", and I don't think she said it for any of the others. I remembered her saying that before Will's solo last week.

See, here's the thing.
I watch figure skating, and SYTYCD, and DwtS, and America's Ballroom Challenge, and ABDC, because I'm always on the lookout for one of those moments. Where the performer, the dance, the song, all come together perfectly.
When Twitch came out for his solo, and I saw the graphic go up for "Don't Worry, Be Happy" -- I said "Ah, perfect!"
If he had been eliminated tonight, I would have been content, because that would have been a lovely way to say so long to us. Not that I wanted Twitch to go, but let's face it -- in the alternate universe where the dancers are judged on ability rather than viewer votes, it would have been Joshua and Will in the final two, and Twitch would have been out this week.
So great to see a dancer who knows how to pick music which is utterly right.
Side note to Kamakzie: I saw Lady Ga Ga in the Guide Data and said "who" -- but I do know the song -- it's been around.
This has not been a great season for finding new music, I have to say. <shrug>

The name Lady GaGa is stupid, she was stupid, her hair was stupid, her clothes were stupid, and the song was stupid. Why on earth she was a featured performer anywhere beats the crap outa me.
They should have left both her and the breakdancing baby out and extended the solo times, or gotten us a dance performance of some sort. Stupid fillers.
I was surprised it was Mark instead of Twitch, but Twitch is a personable guy and very popular I'm sure.
I think Cat Deeley is the best reality show host out there and should have been Emmy nominated..... Heidi Klum??
Really??
Cat is natural, she doesn't screw up, she helps the contestants in every way possible and is just a joy to watch. Heidi Klum strikes a pose and reads one line. Meh.

Jan, I absolutely agree with you - in a perfect world, it WOULD be Joshua and Will next week. And Twitch's solo was awesome. :)

I watch this show as much for Cat as for the dancing. She's wonderful. About Lady Ga-Ga, was that really a "lady"?

Interesting. When I watched it, I couldn't help but think how bad Courtney looked. I remember thinking to myself that it looked like she had just learned the routine an hour before and was always a step behind the other girls because she was "following" what they were doing because she didn't remember the routine. Just my opinion.
That said, that made me focus on Courtney so I didn't even look at anybody else.

I like Cat, but I also like Heidi. I think she does quite a bit more than just strike a pose, but to each their own.
Glad Twitch stuck around.

Chelsie lost position on the opening move, and it went downhill for me there. She was very shaky and unsure of herself - I thought Courtney & Katee looked great!
Very interesting. I may have to go back and re-watch again. :)

I am amused by how grossed out everybody was with the whole grill thing, yet there was hardly an eyebrow raised when Twitch and Katee kissed in their Mia routine with the door.
In one story I read, a character described two others in a heavy makeout session by saying "They was tradin' spit."
Is it gross in this case because the spit only goes one way? Like the hair in the George Carlin joke, once it's no longer attached to the person it came from, then it's gross?
What are the rules?
;)

I think it's just a weird "line in the sand" kind of thing. I can french kiss my wife no problem, but if she spat on my hand and asked me to lick it, I'd be grossed out.

But it's the same spit.
Fascinating, isn't it?

To get back to the dancing for a moment -- I'm dumping off the show to VCR right now, and I was watching Mark and Courtney's waltz again.
Boy, howdy, are they far apart. I mean, you could drive a truck between them. Not that I blame them, but still. I'd be way more impressed if more of that choreography had them in an actual closed hold -- especially for a V. Waltz, which (AFAIK) is supposed to be in a closed hold for everything but the highlight moves.

A bit of Twitch trivia - he was one of the background dancers (in Maybelle's [played by Queen Latifah] store) in the movie Hairspray [also choreographed by Adam Shankman].
here are his stats: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2798774/

So....how is it that Adam was allowed to judge him? I realize that they probably didn't work closely together, but they still worked together - professionally, even.

This has come up before with other dancers/teachers/judges/choreographers and I believe the general consensus is that dance is a small world and it is inevitable to a degree.

I would need to check my notes to be sure, but IIRC, Adam did not come on as a judge this year until late in the season -- after they had passed the point where the judges had to vote about who stays and who goes.

And speaking of movie appearances --
Dance with Me (1998) is airing this weekend -- check out the credits for the dancers and you'll see Jean Marc Genereux and France Mosseau, and Tony Meredith and Melanie LaPatin.
I missed Shall We Dance on Bravo yesterday morning, but the credits there are even more amusing:
Jean Marc Genereux ... Smarmy Old Man
You'll also see Tony Meredith, and a number of names that will be familiar to fans of Dancing with the Stars. :D

Shankman was a judge in week 3 but Twitch wasn't in the bottom that week.

There's a disclaimer at the end of every show that due to the nature of the dance profession, judges and contestants may have had previous contact and worked together before.

Twitch may have worked with Adam, yes, but Debbie Allen has a teacher / student relationship with Will.
That's where I think they drew the line. The teacher / student contact is over a long period of time, and there's an obvious conflict of interest -- the student's success is an advertisement for the teacher.
