My father is doing some major remodelling in his house and is putting in 3 HDTVs. I am trying to help him plan out what it might cost to have 3 HD Tivos. I assume you would purchase all 3 for $300 each or is there a discount on multiples? Also what would be the service discount, if any, on the 2nd and 3rd TiVos?
He currently has the Motorola HD DVRs from Comcast at 2 HD TVs which he is looking to replace plus add an HDTV in the remodel.
Thanks for any information or suggestions for getting all of this.

If you have a costco membership, they're selling HD TiVo's for $219 (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=399799&highlight=costco)at some of them. For 3 units it would definitely be worth joining.
Service costs $12.95/month for the first unit, and $9.95/month for the others (up to five). (http://www.tivo.com/abouttivo/policies/tivomultiservicediscountagreement.html)
Annual rates are $129 for the first and $99/year for the additional units.

I don't think there is a discount on the unit purchases but I think the price is closer to $250 each. There is a discount on service though. First Lifetime sub is $399, subsequent Lifetimes are $299 each. Monthly would be $9.95/month, I believe, on the second and third units.

and for preexisting members who's subscription has ended, remember that if you sign up for a multibox subscription, the 9.95 plan comes with another 1 year contract.

Preexisting members of what? There is no organization to be a member of.
No such thing as a multibox subscription. If you have multiple Tivos subscribed they each have their own subscription and billing.
All new subscriptions come with a one year minimum commitment, that's been the case for nearly three years.

Thanks, he does have a costco membership.
ETA: So if I am understanding this correctly he could buy 3 HD TiVos for $657 (assuming he can find them at Costco) and then could potentially get lifetime on all 3 for $499 on the first and $299 on the 2nd and 3rd?

Or if you want, get "factory renewed" TiVoHD's from the TiVo website that carries the same warranty as the original boxes for $179/each or $537 for three. And if you want, you still can get the lifetimes described above.
Just my two cents of course, I'd personally go ahead and buy the factory renewed with the theory that they have been really checked over for problems and possible checked more so than new units. Good luck choosing!

I have bought several refurbs over the years from TiVo, and haven't had any problems with them.

Can you get Multi-Service Discount (MSD) on boxes bought through tivo.com? A year or two ago this wasn't possible.

I received an email from Tivo today offering $100.off of on a Lifetime ($399.00-100.00-$299.00) if I buy the box for $299.00.
It must be an offer for current customers, because I had to login to Tivo.com to see it.
Looks like it would also allow a MSD on other units.
Dang. I need to figure out how to make images smaller

No you can't. All Tivos purchased from the website still require full priced subscriptions whether or not you would otherwise qualify for MSD.

Nevermind. Move along. There's nothing to see here.

Not true. Log into tivo.com first. It gives the option of monthly for $9.95 instead of $12.95.
For the OP, you would probably have to buy one, activate it, then buy the additional two to get the discount.

So if I bought the refurbished HD TiVO from www.tivo.com then set it up I could go back and get 2 more with the discounted lifetime service?

Do you have tivo yourself?
A tivo with lifetime service is transferable.... you could buy it on your account then transfer to dad.

Thanks for the link. It looks like I would have to buy at a retail store to use this but that would be a better deal in the end. I assume rebates from TiVo are reliable. Also would I still be able to get the multi service discount?

Well he got an HD TiVo from Amazon and picked up a multistream card today from his local Comcast office. I am heading over to his house tomorrow to try and hook it up. I assume this shouldn't be too difficult to do. If it goes well and he likes it we will be ordering 2 more in the not too distant future. Thanks everyone for your input.
