So I almost missed this one because it's not caught by the regular Mythbusters season pass. This was a fun one though. That fake shark they made was so freaking awesome.
And I tell you it would have taken a lot to get me down there. I would have been totally like Grant. He looked genuinely scared and it looks like they must have really had to talk him in to doing it. But it was fun to watch!

Crap, not picked up by standing Series Link, thanks for the heads up! I'll search it out for a one-off. There hasn't been a new Mythbusters in quite some time.

Yeah, I happened to catch a few minutes and realized it was new. I was able to get the 2nd airing at 1am.

BTW, this was also mentioned in the Season Pass Alerts forum.
It's also listed a zillion more times in the existing guide data.

The roboshark was pretty cool. Wish they would've went into more detail on how they came up with the internals. They pretty much just went, "look, it's hydraulic!", and that was it.
Thought Grant's robodog was pretty lame. It moved way too slow such that it didn't even make any disturbance in the water. And the tether they had it on didn't let it get more than about 6' from the boat. They needed it to get farther from the boat.

The only question I have about the shark they built: why did Adam spend so freaking much time on the metal set of teeth? As far as I can tell, the only thing he used them for was comparing the bite pattern on the surfboard, which wasn't even really all that pertinent to the myth.

They did show it ripping up the pig too, but yeah I agree with you.

I wonder if our SP picked this up. I just assumed it was a rerun.

Ahh, right, the "human analogue." I saw them bring out the pig, and I just rolled my eyes and wandered off to get something from the other room and promptly forgot about it.

Oooh it's a whole new one? I'll have to check that out.... Shark Week used to be my favorite part of the summer but now it seems like it's all the same stuff repeated.

Survivorman's experiments actually seemed more sound than the Mythbusters'. But both their swimming human/dog and thrashing shark animatronics were weak.
Even though I watched them last year, I still love the Air Jaws shows and wish Comcast here (Denver) carried Discovery in HD (maybe they do?).

By the way, according to a Myspace update from Grant, there are 11 new episodes in a row coming up on Mythbusters.
I can't WAIT. I was sorely missing them.

They were showing commercials for them when this one aired. Aug 6 is the first new episode.

I hope they have Joe Rogan on as a special guest on that one. He was on at least one, I think 2, episodes of the late lamented Penn Jillette podcast, where he was arguing the moon landing hoax side of the argument. He was *somewhat* less of a bozo than most of these people, since he admitted he wasn't an expert, and seemed like he COULD be convinced by logical arguments.. (though from what I remember of it, the things he brought up WERE the same old tired arguments).

For an episode based mostly in the Bahamas, there wasn't nearly enough of Kari in a bikini.

Sharks Swarm Beaches Off Singer Island
Beachgoers Told To Stay Out Of Water
Red flags posted at the lifeguard stands served as reminders to beachgoers to stay out of the water.
Mark Northrup didn't know what the flags meant until he saw a shark do a barrel-roll out of the water.

You know how to tell if there are sharks in the water?
You hear the Jaws music..
