I can't be the only one watching Last Comic Standing (http://www.nbc.com/Last_Comic_Standing/) (NBC/Global) this season, so I thought I'd start a thread before the season is over.
Here are my predictions for the Final Five:
1. Marcus ('cause he's already there, after being awarded immunity by Hugh Hefner's brainless bimbos "The Girls Next Door"),
2. Ron G. (arrogant, but apparently babes like him, and his last set was really good),
3. Louis Ramey (he's a pro and did a good set),
4. Jeff Dye (likeable and funny and appeals to the babes),
5. Iliza Shlesinger (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jxmhKpm4Ojw) (sexy -- appeals to guys and babes -- and hilarious and has more than proven her worthiness by crushing four other comics in two successive challenges),
I hate to say it, but Sean Cullen (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EEKVJZa_gdE), although very experienced and established in Canada, his set was more geared for a one-man half-hour to hour-long stage show rather than a 3-minute set intended for a reality show competition format.
Andrew Adam Hunter*, although slapping out joke after joke in an energetic set, has the least appeal IMHO. I'm sure he is a favorite with others, but not for me.
Jim Tavare is an accomplished comic in the U.K., but his pace is much slower and I don't think his set was as strong when compared to the other finalists.
I'd love to see Iliza take the LCS title for this season.
What do you think?
* That's how memorable Adam has been for me ... I couldn't even remember his first name!

This is the first week of at home voting. So the people voting have seen the whole series, unlike a seated audience that only had their stage act. Because of that I think Sean Cullen will make it in. He's a funny guy and I think Jeff Dye is awful.
Louis Ramey had been my favorite going into this. But it seems the true pros never actually win. Ron G had the best set of the bunch.

That's funny, I think Sean is terrible and Jeff is funny. I don't like Ron G, but I have to admit his last set was really good. Iliza has had to perform every week for the last 3 weeks, so I was impressed that her set was as good as it was, particularly if like she said she had just written most of it.
Louis Ramey has also been my favorite. I hope he wins it.
It's Adam, not Andrew, Hunter.

I don't think Adam or Ron G. are very good comedians, they're funny at times, but generally not great stand-ups, although Ron had a decent set this last time. I'd like to see Jim Tavare make it in to the finals, especially over Sean Cullen who is not funny. At all. He's annoying, and that stupid porny-porn song is still stuck in my head.
Iliza, Louis or maybe Marcus should win the whole thing. I hardly ever find female comics funny (not because they're female but because most do "I'm a girl, am I right?" jokes...which I don't find funny), but Iliza is consistently funny and has great stage presence (plus, she's hot). Louis and Marcus have been solid throughout. I like that Marcus is able to do actual stand-up and not rely on his impressions for everything, but he's starting to fall into the trap of doing his de-facto Walken impression for a quick laugh, and needs to watch that during the finals.
Possible season pass alert......CBS is moving BBrother and TGADog around. Thursday may be more crowded now.

If LCS is the only exposure you've had to Sean Cullen, you really need to see more of his stuff before you judge him.
Try a YouTube search for "Sean Cullen" or "Corky and the Juice Pigs" and I guarantee you will laugh. He does tend to rely on mostly musical comedy where he mixes some improv/ad lib to a formula song. It may not work for the LCS format, but it certainly works in a longer show set.
Try these and you won't have that Porny-porn-porn song stuck in your head -- although that shows that it actually works. :)

Ron G. is godawful but will get through because of his association with Bellamy (BTW, I don't think I've ever cracked a smile at anything BB does or says).
Ramey is in a completely different league than the rest.

Louis Ramey just has this casual polish about him, like he doesn't worry about anything. I see the final 3 being him, Iliza, and Marcus.
Louis because he's the best one. Iliza because she's pretty good and she's a woman (and there's never been a female winner). Marcus because I think people will see him as Dane Cook with impressions.

I think these would be my picks too. I want Iliza to win, I think she is funny as is Loius and I like Marcus' impressions. This season seemed really short to me. Did they cut down the number of episodes by using the 3 way eliminations to get to the fan vote quicker?

Yeah. Marcus's impressions that have been done to death in the 90's really puts him out as the most talented. NOT!
Come up with some newer more current impressions and stop the go to Walken and Gilbert ones that are so over it is not even funny.

The moment they staged it that it was between Sean Cullen and Iliza Shlesinger for the last of the final five, I knew my favorite comic of this season was to be gone. He *did* blow it last week -- just doing a song was a bad, bad choice. But I wonder if he already has other plans and was sabotaging himself? At any rate, he got a lot of exposure on this show and I have *no* doubt that we'll be seeing more from him.
Jeff Dye -- probably the best looking male stand-up comic I've ever seen. By far. By a landslide. EVER. ;)
Jim Tavare -- he had a fantastic set tonight. I had him written off. After it was over I thought "wow, this guy is really good. Too bad he's going to be leaving." WRONG! Best surprise of the night!
Marcus -- OK, so does this guy actually have a last name or not? Nevertheless, I do like him a lot. Since Sean Cullen is gone, he is my choice to win.
Louis Ramey -- OK, he's funny. He's got a great stage presence. But...I'm just not a fan. I think Sean Cullen should be in his place (despite last week's misfire).
Iliza Shlesinger -- She's definitely funny and certainly deserves to be in the Top 5. I don't think she's the best, but I guess she's eye candy and that helps (re: Jeff Dye). I get the feeling she's going to win. And she'll have a nice career...as a stand up comic.
Sean Cullen -- I expect to see him in movies and television shows. ;)
But HEY, all of this talk about "The Last Comic Standing" and we're completely ignoring "The Last Comic DRIVING!!!" *BIG YAWN* Talk about a stupid promo idea. :(
I don't think she had the best set last night, but I still think Iliza will win.

I've not seen Sean Cullen anywhere before, so all I have to judge him on is his performance in this series, which I guess is the point anyway.
Having said that, I think "America" got it right with the final five. The thing that struck me is that even though the eliminations this week were based on last week's performances, I feel that those that were eliminated also had the worst performance THIS week. To be honest, it could have been a toss-up for me between Sean Cullen or Jeff Dye - either of those two could have gone home this week and I would still feel "America" got it right. For me, they were basically a tie for fifth.
Louis Ramey was not my favorite going into this week, but he is a very polished stand-up and I thought he deserved finals. This week's performance had me laughing out loud in several spots and I thought this week he was probably the best. I'd never seen Jim Tavare before LCS, but he has been my favorite and I really enjoyed his set last night. I'm not sure he'll win it, but I think he's a solid second.
I didn't think Iliza had a particularly good set last night, but I'm tending to judge it, I think, against her other ones which were better. I still think even with a bit of a let down, she would be my third choice. And I thought her comments about the Rockettes in the first row was spot on! :) Marcus, well, he just doesn't do anything for me. He's more like amusing, and if I saw him on some show it wouldn't be cause to turn it off, but if he had a solo show on Comedy Central or something, I wouldn't make any effort to tune in, whereas I could see myself paying some money to see Louis, Jim or Iliza if the opportunity presented itself.
If I had been voting last night (let's say 10 votes), I would have voted five times for Louis, three for Jim and twice for Iliza. As it turns out (only downside to TiVo that I've found so far!) I actually finished watching at exactly 11:00 Central Time (two hours after the end of the show) and when I called I kept getting "your call cannot go through as dialed", even after very carefully checking the numbers I was dialing (even the "877", not 800 or 866 ;)). I can only think that's a very hard two hour window!
Ron G, Adam - good riddance - it was about time.
One thought that crossed my mind last night was that for all the 'bytes' devoted to railing against Carly Smithson in the AI threads for her tatoos, I don't recall seeing one comment about "Marcus should be wearing long sleeves" or "how can he go out there and do that will all those tatoos" and things like that. Nothing profound, just ironic, I thought.

The top-5 is exactly as I was hoping, so that was nice. Surprising, for me, was how they performed.
Prior to this episode, my pick for "funniest" or "favorite" comic (from the Top 5) would have been:
1) Iliza, 2) Louis, 3) Jim, 4) Marcus, 5) Jeff
but based soley on last nights it would have been:
1) Jeff, 2) Jim, 3) Iliza, 4) Marcus, 5) Louis
Jeff was surprisingly funny, good delivery, there was a "thread" to his jokes (they weren't just jokes thrown together for no reason, there were transitions - something I like in my stand-up). Jim was solid, and got several laughs from me. Iliza was good, but I feel like she's starting to run out of material after having to perform so many times. Marcus felt like he was starting to get a big head from being in the spotlight, but I could be imagining that. Louis...I just don't know what happened - he didn't "do it" for me last night - his jokes were kinda "heh" funny, but no "LOL"s, if you will.

I wish they hadn't done the eliminations one-by-one, because doing so tipped off the results. I called every elimination after Ron G's based simply on logic and not on the merits of the performer. When we got down to the last three (Jeff, Sean, and Iliza) and one had to be eliminated, we knew that Jeff was in because if he was eliminated then Iliza and Sean would both be in and there would be no drama (not that it wasn't obvious that Iliza would get more votes than Sean). I wonder if Jeff figured it out for himself before going on stage.

Jeff surprised me with his set last night. I thought it was the best he's done so far on the show. Iliza I wasn't that impressed with. But that might have been because her boobs seemed bigger than usual and I was distracted.
I thought Louis had another solid set. His delivery is just so professional. Tavare, I continue to like the guy but I always think I'm the only one. Happy to see him get as far as he has. Marcus, well, I just don't like the guy.
And wow, as good as Ron G. was last week, he was awful this week. Sorry to see Sean go but honestly, he hasn't been as funny on stage as he's been off stage.

I also thought her boobs looked enhanced, but I always enjoy her , uhh, sets. ;)
Sorry to see Sean go, but glad to see Ron G. go. He seemed upset and appeared to leave the stage a bit prematurely. I could just imagine him throwing a temper tantrum backstage afterward. Adam looked a bit shell-shocked when he got the news he was eliminated, but he was gracious about it. Sean could only walk offstage and didn't get a chance to acknowledge his time on the show because the focus was on Iliza at that moment.
Overall, I enjoyed this season. I think the format has been improving over the years, but I would like to see less stupid challenges and scenes inside the house. I'd rather see how the comics prepare, and backstage scenes.
I think Iliza kept the two mementos from the Playboy mansion trip and used them in her act.. ;)

Iliza and Adam had been my favorite for the final win. I was shocked to see Adam be eliminated. But, now that he is, I say it's full steam ahead for Iliza.
Insty is torn between Iliza and Jeff. I like Jeff, I do. He's funny and he's cute. Thing is, I think Iliza is funnier, and of course I'm partial to thinking she's cuter too, but I want that to be beside the point. She consistently delivers, in my opinion, the funniest sets and I see no reason why she shouldn't win.
I also really, really like Jim's style. He's great. I just like Iliza more. A lot more.*
All the remaining people are good, actually. Adam's elimination aside, I'm very happy with how the narrowing has gone. The four people bumped off by Iliza absolutely deserved to be, and not even because she's the best, but rather because they were the worst. I cannot believe CJ and Foot thought it'd be a good idea to go up against her. Fools.

My only complaint about the finale was regarding how much Bill Bellamy had sold his soul (i.e. sell-out) for the hosting job. Bill was babbling over Fern's lines, and shamelessly pandered to Jon Lovitz' lame set by giving an awkward zombie-like laugh and praising the set as "very, VERY good". Come on! It would have been okay to just say "let's hear it for Jon Lovitz" and then move on to the next bit. Then again, the words of praise might have been in the teleprompter for Bill to read. It just came off as really lame to me.
I still like Bellamy -- it just didn't sound like him at that moment.

Ramey blew it with his worst set we've seen so far. Iliza and Jeff seemed to me to have the most potential. Sean Cullen was funny in improvisational moments but his sets needed work. I hope to see him in something like a tonight show sketch where they typically use the unfunny howie mandel. Speaking of howie mandel, what was with the totally over-the-top whoring out of LCS done to show an elaborate promo for deal or no deal? Sheesh.
Marcus is better than I expected when not doing impressions. While his impressions are mostly outdated, I must admit a fondness for his bobcat goldthwait impression. I've not seen one that good before. Also thought his Morgan Freeman could be quite good with more work.

Really?!!? Since they started off the eliminations with all 5 standing there and then knocked off Ramey first, why would they possibly eliminate the second or third place person before the fifth place person? If that were the case, I would expect that they would specifically announce that the eliminations are in no particular order ... which they did not do.
I am confidently going on the assumption that they went in order of placement.
i.e. 5th place: Louis Ramey
4th place: Jim Tavaré
3rd place: Jeff Dye
2nd place: Marcus (no last name)
1st place: Iliza Shlesinger

I'm not confident at all that they finished in that order. In fact, while watching it, I mentioned that they didn't say that they were in order... they just said something like "the next comic to leave us...". It wouldn't surprise me if they were, in fact, in that order, but they definitely left it up in the air a bit.
Reality shows have changed the order of eliminations like this in the past, probably because they feel that there is more suspense if it is reordered. For example, in this episode, they might have thought that Eliza vs. Marcus was more suspenseful than Eliza vs. Jim.

I'm disappointed in the finale show. It looked like it was thrown together. There was no flow to it at all. Wow, did people really think Tavare was funnier than Rami? Iliza's set was the worst she has performed this season probably because she been up so much tho she did deserve to win overall. The appearance of Triumph the Insult Comic Dog was the highlight of the show and thats about it.

Well, I don't have a library of reality shows to where I can view past episodes to see how they worded the eliminations. I seem to remember Ryan on American Idol sometimes saying "in no particular order" and other times where he doesn't, and there is speculation from fans as to whether they were in that order or not.
I'm just saying that in this episode they didn't say that someone had the 5th most votes, least votes, etc. As I said above, they could have been in that order, or they might not have been. They did leave it a little up in the air.
To me, it doesn't really matter all that much. The winner is the winner, and all of the others will still be billed as "As seen on LCS" at your local comedy club.

Reality shows have changed the order of eliminations like this in the past, probably because they feel that there is more suspense if it is reordered. For example, in this episode, they might have thought that Eliza vs. Marcus was more suspenseful than Eliza vs. Jim.That doesn't make sense to me. The most suspenseful match-up would be the two people most likely to win, right? And the two people most likely to win would be the two people who got the most votes, right? If Jim indeed had more votes than Marcus, wouldn't that mean that many people were expecting Jim to win and not as many people were expecting Marcus to win? So rearranging the order would make it less suspenseful.

Iliza's set was the worst she has performed this season probably because she been up so much tho she did deserve to win overall. Her final set had nothing to do with the outcome, so she could have bombed and still won. The only reason they performed at all was because otherwise the show would have taken only five minutes.

...the show would have taken only five minutes.
...and probably should have been. I cannot believe they managed to stretch that to 1.5 hours. Everything about that episode was completely ridiculous. Everything. Crap like that is why FF buttons were invented. I probably skipped over more than 90% of that recording.

Sorry what I meant was that her set was not indicative of her prior performances which won the show.

I can't believe Iliza won. Did anyone else notice ALL her stuff was making fun of people? I mean, that's fine for a few pieces, but it was all angry, hateful stuff. That usually doesn't bother me. I love Carlin and he hated everything. But I thought her stuff just wasn't as funny as Lewis, for example.
Cullen's stuff doesn't really fit well into the 5-minute format of setup/punchline. I hadn't heard of him before LCS, but I quickly became a fan and think he's brilliant. It seems people either "get him," or don't think he's funny at all.
I just bought his albums off iTunes, and particularly recommend "Live!" if you liked his performances. You can also see his whole Comedy Central special at myspacetv.com. I've been having a blast discovering his stuff, including his "Corky & The Juice Pigs" from MadTV (on YouTube)... If you look at that stuff, the REM bit is killer.
I'm sure some show will either pick up Iliza or her pilot will probably be successful... I could easily see her on a TV show... Probably not something I'd watch, but she'd probably do well on American television as a sarcastic sidekick or something.

They could have done without the opening song from God's Pottery, cut the Talk Soup guy, tell Lovitz to ask Lorn Michaels for his old job back, and dropped all the "let's take a look at your time on the show" retrospectives and get it all done in a 1/2 hour. The shameless plugs for other NBC shows were just too much.
If it comes back, who plans on watching next season?

Seeing how I can TiVo it and skip all the worthless crap that they use to fill time and sell more commercials I probably will unless there is something better on (most likely that will not be the case). If I did not have TiVo then I would probably drop it. Same with AI.

I would never, EVER, watch that show live. Heck, even if I were home and it was on, I'd still DVR it anyway, just to watch it in an hour or two instead. The inane amount of crap which needs to be skipped during the show (and I'm not talking about commercials - I'm talking about actual inane crap and ridiculously long suspenseful pauses "And the winner is ........................ duhn-duhn ............................ boom-boom ................................ na-na-na-na ............................................................ ...... la-ti-do ............................................. drip ................... blink ........................................... ta-da!! .......................................... COMING UP RIGHT AFTER THIS!!!!") is worse than any other show I've ever seen.
But, then, I've never watched American Idle, so I suppose I don't know how bad the competition is.

Yeah, that's the best part about watching it with TiVo. You're probably right, I doubt there will be much else on to watch instead of
Oh snap. I just remembered a part of the finale that I had blocked. The questions from Richard Belzer and Steve Schirripa for the contestants. That was some of the lamest scripted attempts at being funny that I think I had ever seen. I thought that the writer's strike was over. Aren't these people getting paid to write something funny? The producers should get a refund.
