Hello. I recently bought a used Series 2 DT (649) model off e-bay. I hooked up box and noticed that 'the account is in good standing".

I tried to contact seller and have not recieved a response as to whether this box has a month to month, yearly, or lifetime pre-paid plan. Any Ideas on what to do or should I just wait until my unit's acccount is "no longer in good standing"? Thanks for your time.

Have you double checked the any listing to see if you missed some of those details.

If you can't get the info from the owner, call Tivo to inquire about the status of the tsn(tivo service number-on rear of the unit-also on system info screen) of your Tivo.

A guess is it's probably at or near the end of the term of one of the plans. It's not lifetime, as that would show instead of "in good standing".

I do not understand this question, however, I will contact Tivo and give them the information that you have directed me to use. Thank you !

Have you repeated guided setup or at least allowed the Tivo to make a daily connection?

Chances are that the owner disconnected the Tivo and then canceled the service. The Tivo will report the status as being in good standing until it connects and the account status can be updated.
If it had lifetime, the status would state that fact.

The question is asking you if you re-read the eBay listing that you won, to see if you might have missed some details which explain the subscription status.

If the status is anything other than "account in good standing" a couple of connections to the TiVo servers should correct the discrepancies.

I doubt lifetime - that should show 5:Product Lifetime or something like that.
It will change to "Account Closed" at the end of any prepaid subscription, but I wouldn't call Tivo to ask - only lifetime is transferable to a new owner, so if they find out it has been sold, they might cut off any remaining service. The previous owner can also transfer the service to another unit at any time.

I have a question very similar to the OP's question, so I'm going to tack it on here instead of starting a new thread.

I recently picked up a S2 unit cheap at a yardsale, and it turns out it has a lifetime subscription attached to it. It was apparently last used in mid-2007, about a year ago. And yes, its working, its connected to TiVo's servers several times and has a complete schedule, etc, it records any show I tell it to, and it still says its got a lifetime subscription.

So my question is can I call TiVo and have this unit added to my account so I don't have to keep switching MAKs in TiVo Desktop so I can see both this unit and the other S2 unit I already had (its on a monthly subscription)? Or would it be best to keep my mouth shut and just switch MAKs in TiVo Desktop when I want to offload something from the lifetime unit?

Just call TiVo and tell them you own the unit and its been set up on your ZIP and they will put the TiVo into your account..no problem.

Yes, lifetime subscriptions are transferable. Just call and have it put on your account. They may ask for info on the previous owner but if you don't have it and they insist on it, just be bullheaded about it and it will get done.
