I have two Series2s. One 540 and one 240. Both single tuner. I am replacing one of them with a TivoHD. Which is better to keep active? The 540 (with the night light on the front) or the original single tuner series2 (240).

What's the storage on the two machines? Which one do YOU like to use best? Do you have one set up in a way that makes it a more useful machine? Details! We need details! :)

They are both 40hr. They are both set up the same.. I don't mind reassigning season passes. I don't really have a preference. I guess I was thinking more about the technical differences. Did they put more ram in the 540, is the 240 slightly faster. That sort of thing.

the 240 is the slightly better model.
It has a better USB chipset which makes networking faster on the 240 since both models rely on USB adapter for networking.
Ram is the same, I think the internals such as menu speed and remote response will be the same.
One other difference - the 540 does have the updated PROM that needs to be replace, requiring soldering work, if you want to hack the TiVo. The 240 can be hacked via conventional methods.

The 240 has a separate faster USB chipset, but is older.
I'd keep the 240 active, and the other on hand in case it fails. That is assuming both are on monthly subs.

Another vote for the 240. It's from all accounts a better made machine.
