I just picked up a Time Capsule to replace my aging Netgear router. I have the Tivo HD with wireless USB connection that was working fine with the Netgear using WEP settings. Now that I'm trying to set it up for WPA/WPA2 it's struggling to find a connection.

The Tivo HD takes a few minutes to find the network (other networks are found instantly) and after I enter the password it sometimes finds the network long enough to ask if it should be configured for DHCP or not. Other times it just says the network can't be found.

I've also tried just entering the network name but that doesn't seem to help.

Searching this forum I've reduced the password to exactly 13 characters but, again, no good. I've double-checked spelling and capitalization. The Tivo HD has version 9.3a (I did an update search yesterday but it couldn't find anything newer).

What am I doing wrong? I know Tivo HD is capable of WPA connections. Why am I having such trouble?

Are you using the official TiVo brand wireless adapter? If the answer is no, then "no WPA for you."

I have a spare I can sell for less than TIVO sells it! (gave away one of my TIVOS!)

Well it has a Tivo logo on it so I assume it's an official one. I've attached a photo.

I'm not sure where my head was at. The Tivo wireless adapter is the only model supported on the Series 3 / TivoHD models.

My solution to networking my TivoHD was to use a second wireless router that supports bridging, and connecting that to the Tivo with an ethernet cable. I felt better served spending my $60 on a second router, rather than a USB wireless adapter that will only be useful with a Tivo.

Have you tried changing the channel on the Time Capsule? Mine only seems to work consistently if I have it set to Channel 11. You should try all the different channels, starting with 11, 1, 6 then all the ones inbetween.

Also, need to make sure the Radio Mode is set to 802.11b/g compatible.

Great suggestion! I changed it to Channel 11 and it connect fine. Thanks!
