I have a series 2 and series 3. The series 3 has cable cards and therefore allows the show information for stations above 99. Can a series two with the built-in digital tuner record stations above 99 without having to get a box from the cable company?

Series 2 TiVos need a cable box to record any digital station no matter what the channel number. It can record analog stations up to 99.

It does not matter what kind of TV you have. The TV does not provide the signal to the Tivo. Tivo Series 2 can get its input from several sources, cable, cable with box, satellite, and over the air (select models). Series 2 Tivos have only built in analog tuners, and use a set top box to receive digital channels.
