I had asked this before, and wondered if there was a fix. Tivo Series 3 insists on resetting it's aspect ratio to 1080i fixed, even though I set it to native.
The main problem with 1080i is when widescreen movies are shown in 4:3. If I set it to native, the TV will get 480i and I can then properly zoom in to maximize real estate (you don't crop with this mode.)
If the Tivo is at 1080i (which is insists on resetting to,) zooming won't work properly. You will end up with poor looking and cropped video.
I believe this may be an HDMI negotiation issue. I am not sure what events cause it to renogtiate it's video format setting. And I could perhaps try settings besides native; perhaps a hybrid setting.
