If I go for the TiVo Series3 HD DVR and am going to get Cox service here in Phoenix, what will I need to request from them to get it up and running properly?

I was told by sales that it is $2/card/month, does that sound right?

I see there are two types of cards, should I request one over the other? M Card?

Are there any special tricks or tips to watch out for during installation?

Bascially call them out to install the cards (s-cards or m-cards). The S3 accepts either one, but the m-card will only function as a s-card. You can't use one m-card in the S3 to get multiple streams like with the THD.

Make sure the tech follows the intructions that come with the S3 to install the cards. Don't let them be impatient and skip steps. Follow the steps and you will be fine.

When testing the channels, make sure you test the HD channels that are NOT locals, like Discovery HD, etc. to make sure you are ok.

This isn't installation specific, but I recommend you read this thread (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=399534) just so you're aware what's happening when you start to get partial recordings.

Thanks!

I'm a bit leery of making the switch to Cox with Tivo, but DTV is making me bananas and I'd really like the features a real Tivo unit includes. I've been waiting on the bugs to get fixed and figure I may as well do it now as I doubt the price will change and things can only get better.

I hope... I'm such an optimist
