I saw an older thread about this, but nothing recent. Will the ReplayTV Guide updates stop in 02/2009?

I have Comcast/TIVO box which I think is great. I also have a ReplayTV 4000 that is from 2002. It probably works because it was unused for almost 2 to 4 years.

I like having 3 tuners, but I only have 1 TV, and I can't have 2 Comcast DVRs in the same room. So I will eventually get a TivoHD properly, but considering my ReplayTV 4000 has no expense, I am going to push it until it dies, the remote stops working, or I stop getting guide updates... whenever that is... The pause button sticks sometimes. ;-)

Just to clarify, I should be able to have a Motorola DCT???? Comcast/TIVO box in the same room with a TivoHD and the remotes should not conflict right?
Having 4 tuners during the regular TV season would be GREAT!

Long live the Multi-TUNER hogs! :-)

Peter

I have no idea about the answer to your question, but I think http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/forumdisplay.php?f=27 is probably a better place to ask it.

I believe that the ComcastTiVo remote uses a different codeset than the Standalone/DirecTV TiVo remotes do.

With a fort, you can probably use a Standalone Series 2 TiVo or your Replay box with the Comcast TiVo.

I see no reason the Replay guide service would cease on 2/17//2009. TiVo's guide data service isn't stopping that day.

It is just that, if a Replay is being used for analog antenna, it won't be really usable, but some of the workarounds that work on Series 1/2 TiVos now should work on a ReplayTV. If the source is cable or satellite, then there will be no long term issues, unless they are indeed outright pulling the guide service for them (but it won't be because of the analog broadcat TV shutoff).

Even with OTA, if Replay devices have a "dumb VCR" mode (umm....like unsubbed Series 1 TiVos? :D ) and you can set time and channel, there may be a little "hope".

At least two of the new digital converter boxes have event timers built into them. Set both sets of timers (your Replay and your digital converter box), the two machines operate in tandem, the tuner feeds the recorder, and you've got your recording.

One box that does this is the Zinwell ZAT, and the other is made by Echostar, which means if I tell you its name here my fingers and toes may melt off. :p
