View Full Version : hdmi splitter causing hdtivo reboot loop

I've been using my HDTivo on a monoprice hdmi switch for a couple of months with zero problems. The switch also services an AppleTV. Last night, I added an HDMI splitter (powered, monoprice, 1x4) and Brando hdmi-over-cat5 gizmo to broadcast to another TV in the house.

This worked great for about 5 minutes of TV viewing, then reboot. Hoping it was a fluke, I let it come up and try again. 5 or so minutes of TV viewing later, it rebooted again. Then it began to reboot from the "few more minutes" screen.

For the first test, I disconnected the Brando hdmi extender. Reboots persist. Then I pulled the splitter, returning to the original setup. Everything was fine after that. This morning, 12 hours later, everything still seems to be fine.

Has anyone else had trouble like this? Searching the forums, it seems that others are using monoprices switches with no issue on their hdtivo. Does the order of plugging into the splitter matter? The docs don't mention it, but some of the posts seem to suggest that the negotiating info is pulled from the TV in slot 1. I don't think I actually plugged either TV into slot 1.

The tivo is running 9.3a and the output is fixed at 720p. One TV is an LG and one's a Toshiba. I contacted monoprice, but they were not aware of an issue. I'll do some more debugging over the weekend.

thx,
jay

You're using two HDMI switches at the same time?

Nope... sorry if the description is confusing.

There's a switch to select from a number of HDMI sources. The output of the switch goes to a splitter which takes 1 HDMI input and drives 4 HDMI outputs. The four outputs go to panels in different rooms.

Both the switch and splitter come from monoprice and are intended to be used this way, at least that's what the splitter's docs say.

Two switches shouldn't matter. I've used 2 HDMI switches into another switch and then into a splitter with no problems.

Try switching the splitter outputs. I've used several and I know a couple of them would only work one way with the output cables. if I swapped them it wouldn't work properly.
