View Full Version : Discrete remote codes for various destinations in the TiVo UI?

Does anyone know if there are discrete remote codes to reach various screens within the TiVo UI?

I ask because I feel like I'm missing out on a lot of the newer functionality because much of it is not a part of my habitual flow through the UI. And when I saw the writeup on gizmodo for YouTube, my first reaction was "cool, too bad I have to dig through the menu system to get there". I'd like to be able to program a "YouTube" button into one of the softkeys of my Harmony.

A little background: I know there are several two-button "shortcut codes" to reach a pre-defined set of screens in the TiVo UI (e.g. from TiVo Central, pressing 3 takes the UI to Wishlists). While nice, these aren't easy to incorporate into a Harmony, and the sequence "tivo,3" always has the slight possibility of not working as a discrete code ... if the UI is already on "Tivo Central" the "tivo" IR command will send it into Now Playing, and the 3 will likely then be ignored - or so I believe unless Tivo was clever enough to map the 0-9 shortcuts in NPL as well as TC.

I also know there is a discrete IR code for "List" that takes one to Now Playing, and this particular one is even in the Harmony database. But I did not find any information on discrete codes, even for the other screens that have shortcuts from Tivo Central. So, does such an animal exist?

I think Harmony has the discrete codes pretty well covered (List, Standby, etc.). There aren't any others I'm aware of that could be "learned."

That being said, the new telnet interface (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=392385) seems to lend itself well to macro-type programming. You wouldn't be able to use the Harmony with it though.

It would be cool with an inexpensive IR/RF/Wi-Fi remote that could use telnet for the TiVo and IR/RF for the other components. Too bad the iPod Touch doesn't do IR. ;)

Interesting - I didn't know about this route. I'll have a look through that thread.

I do have a HTPC in my setup that has an IR receiver, and at least a few unassigned buttons on the harmony that can trigger arbitrary actions on the HTPC. Thanks for the pointer!

You can use "list,tivo,3". Since the List command always takes you to a known state. Unless you're someplace that blocks all commands. But then nothing would work.

I've been looking for discrete codes as well, especially one for netflix. I assume that TIVO doesn't support anything but the basic remote functions....somenoe correct me if I am wrong.

Except for List and Standby, I don't think there are any others (at least on my Series 2s). I used my Philips Pronto to try every command from 0-255 and didn't find any others.

Did you locate the Standby command? If so would post or send private message

What is the discrete IR code for 'list' for an HD XL box, and how would I input it into my Harmony? For the future, where would I find this out myself?

I've been used to the Tivo Series 2 box I've had forever, and I really like the 'list' button. I know that I can hit 'Tivo' twice, but I would prefer the single button, if it's still available somehow.

Thanks for any help.

It's been a while since I've had to adjust my Harmony 676 setup, but I'm pretty sure the List command is available for the TiVo Series3 profile.

Thanks for the pointer. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like those codes work with the Tivo HD XL. When I used that model, the remote wasn't able to communicate with the Tivo at all.

Is there something I need to do to have the Tivo understand the 'new' model number?

Thanks again.

Is there something I need to do to have the Tivo understand the 'new' model number? You need to follow the instructions in the stickied TivoHD FAQ (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=419994) [search on Logitech Harmony]. It tells you how to get discrete codes for the NPL, standby, etc for every TiVo model on Harmony remotes.

Ggieseke linked to a quote of the FAQ in his above post. Works with my TivoHD XL.

Yeah, use the original S3 profile, not the newer TiVo HD XL one. There shouldn't be any difference anyway.
