I convinced my dad recently to buy a TiVo and he really likes it. He called me today with an issue however. Although not TiVo-technology related, it is bugging him.
When he received his TiVo and wireless adapter (both of which he ordered direct from TiVo), there was a flyer in the box that said something like "Buy a TiVo wireless adapter and get 5 free rentals."
The flyer says to visit tivo.com/5free. However, that page is really just an order page to buy a wireless adapter. He already bought it. So after tspening quite a bit of time talking with TiVo cs and Amazon cs, he has had no luck in getting 5 free rentals or a code to give him 5 free rentals. Each basically says to call the other, though Amazon was kind enough to credit him for one rental.

He really feels that because there was a flyer in the box, and he really did buy a TiVo wireless adapter from TiVo, he should receive the offer. I happen to agree.

Anyone have any ideas what my father can do to get this taken care of?

Maybe it's because he got the adapter in a "bundle" with the TiVo? Everything on that page makes it look like you'll get the redemption instructions in the box if you purchase an adapter from tivo.com.

My suggestion would be to call CS again, say you bought the wireless adapter and did not receive the redemption instructions for your 5 free Unbox rentals.

My suggestion would be to stay away from calling CS, and hope for a reply from one of the Tivo people here. It seems he is not really eligible for the deal and should be happy with the free rental. He probably saved money by purchasing a Tivo+Adapter which is why it doesn't qualify. I know with my bundle the adapter was basically thrown in for free as well.

I agree he should stay away from cs. And he will because they were no help after 2 hours. However, TiVo shouldn't be including the flyer in their shipments unless they can honor it. Why ship it with a box that has an adapter in it and then say he can't have the free rentals.

I know it's not the end of the world, but it's a bit annoying. And annoyances make the world go 'round.
