OK, I've been running my Tivo HD all day with plain old compsoite hookup, no problems. My new cables just showed, I'm doing;

- HDMI for video straight to the TV
- TOSLINK from the Tivo to my AVR (doesn't have HDMI).

I'm not getting any sound BUT if I activate the TV speakers the Tivo is passing sound via HDMI to the TV.

What am I doing wrong?

Dunno how it is on yours, but on my Onkyo SR-800 you have to map the audio input for the selected video input by using a button [Digital Input] on the front panel. It has to know to use the optical input the TOSlink cable is on for audio for that video selection.

Mine was more mysterious because at one point I heard the wrong audio so I thought my receiver was hosed for a few tense minutes. :o

1.) On the Tivo, from the Tivo Central menu, go to Messages & Setttings -> Settings -> Audio -> Dolby Digital.
Make sure you have Dolby Digital selected, NOT Dolby Digital to PCM.

2.) The TosLink connection might only work on one specific input on your reciever, and you have the wrong one selected.

Thanks to both of you.

I figured it out............it was, ummmm......somebody else's fault. Some dummy was pushing the wrong input button on the AVR.

Last time I hire that jerk!
