Swapping Hard Drives on a SVR2000

I have a SVR2000 that has died more or less. The audio constantly drops out. I replaced the hard drive but the problems are still there. I have also tried replacing all of the cables. This leads me to believe that its probably a bad DAC chip.

Anyway my question is: Can I go purchase an old SVR2000 from eBay and put my current hard drive in it? I don't care about any saved recordings. I simply just want to transfer my lifetime service to a new box.

I'm afraid that won't work... lifetime is tied to the box (the crypto chip makes the m/b unique... so, you may be able to transplant that from the broken one, but that's a gray area, legal-wise)
