This episode is one reason why Deadliest Catch is the granddaddy of these types of shows. I enjoyed this one thoroughly and the hour was up before I knew it. Mike Rowe is unmatched in his narration and ability to add drama just by the sound of his voice. Whether or not DC is more or less risky than another job is not the point, the producers just do a heck of a job making it look and feel that it is. Well done Deadliest Catch, great show.

Ice Road Truckers can't even hold DC's jock. Constantly showing the same crack in the ice (likely from the Yellowknife road anyway) and some manufactured risk- "Drew gets a hangnail and Hugh calls him an @$$%(#), after the break"

Ax Men is a pathetic bunch of girly men doing their best to stay out of the way of a falling tree.....Whoop de do! Then they go home to their baby Mamas waiting at the trailer.

Black Gold doesn't even register on the pussy scale. "Boo Hoo, I got my shirt dirty"

Wow, great show.

About next week..crap, I can't get spoiler tags to work. Anyway, looks like it's going to really be amazing! I love this show. I gave up on Ax Men and Ice Road Truckers, but Deadliest Catch is GREAT!

DC is by far my favorite show on TV! I do like IRT though.

Watching "After the catch", it's good to see that Phil (Cornelia Marie) seems to be doing ok, but damn, he got beat up big time!

"not such a tough guy", my butt. Hang in there Phil.

Seeing how boats got beat up by those storms was pretty impressive too. The Bearing See sure can be a witch with a capital "B".

I love this show. 'couldn't stand IRT, 'never watched Ax Men, and I'm not sure about Black Gold.

Isn't it strange that they are airing "After the catch" while this season is still airing? Seems like it would make more sense to air it after this season.

It did surprise me a bit.

I haven't noticed any spoilers; more like discussions on some aspects of the show and the people. This week was on brothers/family on the boats. Clips were from previous episodes only.

It brings a different point of view. I like it.

Edit: Did I type "precious". I mean "previous". :)

Yeah, it doesn't spoil anything....I just think from a ratings perspective and keeping people watching your channel, that you'd want to spread these two shows out seperately rather than concurrently.

I wonder.......

Thinking they'd talk more about Phil's situation, I actually ended up going to bed an hour later than I should have because I wanted to see the show to the end. :)

(yeah, I know, it's TiVo. By the time I started watching the DC episode, ATC was already started. :) )

edit: ok, I need to read posts... you did say "spread instead of concurrently". :o In any case, the combination of shows had me hooked.

Aren't they consecutive? Not concurrent or they would be on at the same time.....

WAIT: you prolly mean that the series are running concurrently, not the individual episodes. Gotcha.

Just a heads up! Some of the episodes have incorrect guide data (thanks Discovery Channel!). I have a sp set for new only and have recorded the same episode twice (titles are different but the show is the same). Since Discovery repeats the hell out of this one, it's only a problem for someone who is recording a bunch to view later.

The best comparison was the old Lobster men show vs Deadliest catch

Crab men-
Spend weeks at sea working 20 or more hours at a stretch
suffer freezing temps
40+ft seas
set 400+lb pots, haul 1000+lb pots
fight off ice with rubber coated sledge hammers
Catch thousands of crab

Lobster men-
Spend hours at sea (sometimes overnight!)
Sometimes it rains
ride out 20ft seas (any more and it's to port we go)
set 30lb pots, haul 40lb pots
bitch bitch bitch about others fishing their grounds
catch a hundred or so lobster

on the other hand, lobster men are probably more intelligent than crab men!

Also, unless you're way more fit than the average Tivo user, it would be a severe tactical error to call a lumber jack or oil rigger a "pussy" or "girly man" to his face! I'll give ya the truckers, at least they're usually too fat to chase you down.

I love this show and by the way they don't spend more time on Phil right now on DC because they are going to cover it on ATC, they just haven't gotten to it yet. I'm not entirely sure I understand what is going on with him. Or he may not really want to tell the cameras what's going on with him either. Some of Phil being sick has already been talked about on ATC, his dedicated camera guy was there and the subject came up. They said nothing about it really though, only that the camera guy is probably a reason Phil is still walking this earth.

I've never seen Ice Road Truckers. I watched Axe Men and lost interest quickly. I do watch Black Gold and enjoy it. I do think the roughnecks on Black Gold have a very hard job, though they aren't at sea for months at a time, they could go to work any day of the week and not go home because something on the job killed them.

I loved on ATC that the Irish fishing guy was trying to compare fishing in MA to the Bearing Sea....yeah right!

I'm liking Black Gold. IRT got the axe. I watched all of Axe Men but only because the flood happened. That made it a bit more interesting. As it was, it was something I turned on while I was reading my email or surfing the net.

I can't wait to find out more about what happened to Phil. He had a blood clot that went to his lung. He's lucky to be alive. That's what killed that reporter in Iraq a few years ago. He'll have to be on blood thinners. That's why he said he couldn't go out to sea because he will be like a hemophyliac and could bleed out if he bumps into something.

Yeah? Well this is the internet man, and I can say anything I want about anybody anytime and not have to worry about it! I'll call them whatever I want when I'm hiding behind a monitor on the WWW. :D

I'm pretty sure this didn't happen on the 6/24 show cause that's the last ep I saw and this is news to me:confused:
