My local affiliate pre-empted "Wife Swap" tonight with paid-programming. (Carol Burnett DVD and some hair-care thing)
How come?
From what I can tell is was just a local pre-emption.
What was the subject matter at 8-9pm EST on ABC tonight?

This week in "LaBrie/Zaring," a wife whose obsessed, competitive truck-pulling husband hasn't finished fixing the kitchen after seven years swaps lives with a wife whose main concerns are her appearance and partying like a rock star, on "Wife Swap," WEDNESDAY, JUNE 18 (8:00-9:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network. (Rebroadcast. OAD 2/6/08)

Ours was, too. Our local affiliate ran a crappy two star movie: "The Substitute". Wow, was it hokey.

I think because ABC's ratings weren't up to par this year, the affiliates are getting the chance to pre-empt some time slots with whatever... which they can then pocket all of the commercial revenue, to make up for what they didn't get earlier.
Our ABC affil punted an entire Sunday night to show "Breaking Away" a few months ago, probably for the same reason.
