Pregnant women?! Cook for Pregnant women?!? Too funny really.

Jen's comment (I think it was Jen) about Pregnant women eating anything/always being hungry was true, but it didn't help her make a dish that won the challenge.

Corey was just plain slow and her dish was the least preferred. Perhaps she should have come up with something quicker and simpler to cook so that she could get it out there quicker and not leave people hungry...

I felt a little bad for Petrozza, but then again what would he have done with that prize? (though I suppose they might have offered him a different prize... that said, he really needs a prize like a roomba or something else to clean up behind his messy self....)

Now, on to Christina. She goes off and wins again. Ok, that isn't going to endear her to her teammates.

This is the part that irritates the heck outta me... I wish that Ramsay would hold the team's feet to the fire for LACK OF TEAMWORK when the team starts up again after a contestant returns. I know it's not easy to stop fuming over being beaten, but in reality they really do have to work as a team and how well they work in a team environment and/or how well they take charge in the team environment should be a big part of deciding who wins this thing.

That was... legen... {wait for it} dary!

Normally I don't complain about the previews and such, but I must say (and please don't talk openly about the previews here... use spoiler tags if you are going to talk about what was shown...) this is one of those times when it seems that the previews that were shown go too far.

I hope the previews that were shown were a red herring and aren't close to revealing what will happen next time, but they sure seemed to be a big clue as to what will be happening in the next episode in a very big way.

Otherwise it did seem to be Jen's time *except* for the fact that Christina really screwed up on letting those handles get hot. Her, Corey and Petrozza were very lucky that their ploy worked leaving little or no choice but to get rid of Jen. Corey could have been sent home almost as easily as Jen was really. If Christina had gone up (and not been afraid of letting herself go up...) she could have been an easy dismissal too. Petrozza seemed to be somewhat safe, though he definitely works like Pigpen (from peanuts). Just leaves a mess in his wake.

Chef: Corey, what are you doing?
Corey: Making chips, Chef.
Chef: No, for your dish, you banana!

I'm thinking out of everything Chef calls people during the course of a season, banana is pretty far down on the insult scale :)

i guess you can burn his hand and he will forgive you. I watched this right after a kitchen nightmares so it was an interesting evening for me.

in case i never asked it before , WHY do chefs pans NOT have heat proof handles? I realize any handle over fire will get hot but every single pan there they have to use a cloth...isnt that a PITA and why does my cheap 45 dollar pan have a good handle but not theirs?

i'm glad she is gone...and i'm thinking this is badly scripted as some of what she said in diary just seemed...forced

Theorizing here, but with the amount of use (and subsequent washing) of the pans that a commercial cookware set would get, perhaps there isn't yet anything they can do to make it heat-proof and yet durable enough for a commercial environment.

Additionally, most commercial cookware is designed to be transferred directly to an oven or a salamander for additional cooking, and those sorts of handles may not be oven-safe.

Nothing's more amusing than when Gordon's in a good mood and still tells everyone to f off. :)

Sauce pans wouldn't necessarily go in the oven very often, if at all, but other pans like skillets and such do... for instance, you start many types of meat on the stovetop to get a nice sear on the outside, then transfer to the oven for the actual cooking.

An enjoyable episode. Ding Dong the witch is dead.

Regarding the comment above about previews, that's why I never watch them on any show. I just don't want to know anything that's going to happen. I go into each show fresh. :)

I'll miss this show when it ends in two weeks. Especially since some of the other summer shows I look forward to won't be on this summer.

Oddly though, I have a set of pans that have metal handles and are capable of going in the oven, and I've never had a problem with the handles getting hot (although I don't leave them above an open burner or something like that, so that could be part of the reason). Of course, my stovetop undoubtably isn't as hot as their surfaces either.

If you put the handle over open flame, they will definitely get hot :)

The pans they use, similarly, are designed to be at least somwhat thermally isolated - the handles won't get hot from the pan getting hot, but on their own they can still be really hot.

Puh-raise (your favorite local messiah), Jen is gone. What a complete idiot she was.
Piss off, yes.
It'll be nice for the final 2 episodes, not having to listen to some screaming ball of goo babbling on about how great it is whenever someone else makes a mistake.

Still rooting for Petrozza, although I've got nothing against Christina.
She seems low maintenance at the very least.

I'd like to see Christina and Petro' in the final. I'd also like further clarification on exactly what the prize is at the end of this. Is it as "real" as a the job you get if you win the apprentice?

What is with Jen eating off people's plates and why do they have pots steaming in the kitchen at the end of the day?

So I'm sure we haven't seen the last of her.

I was surprised when Corey knowingly sent the raw fish out and hoped it wouldn't be noticed (but of course it was). I know that the contestants often send out raw/undercooked food but I thought they were just being sloppy, not doing it on purpose.

why do they have pots steaming in the kitchen at the end of the day?All I can figure is that they look good on TV, and the heat and steam adds to the "Hell's Kitchen" motif.

True...but a lot of kitches will have big pots of water on constant boil for things like pastas, lobsters, etc.

maybe they are preparing for the next day already...like in case they forget to turn on the burner :)

and i always loved the timing..they get done service..do they clean up??? the kitchen is always clean while they do elimination so it gotta be 11-1 am or so until they get to this.

My guess is that they would have taken a guy to Armani (or some other overpriced-clothes place for men) for a guy.

What is with Jen eating off people's plates...

Oh, you meant when they were cleaning up... but that reminds me.

So chefs taste things to see if they're done right..

Do they use a new spoon/fork for each one?

I'm not a germophobe, but it does seem a bit weird if they'd use the same utensil each time... but it probably seems worse if they use a new one (at least for hot dishes) each time, for much more to clean.

Restaurant kitchens do a LOT of dishes. A new spoon every time you taste isn't going to put a dent in the load. So yes, they should be using a new spoon every time.

I think the way they all seemed to ignrore Christina and then all of a sudden realized that they needed to work as a team to make the service........seemed completely fabricated.

.....

.......

Note, I don't think what I am about to say is a spoiler per se so I think it is safe to not use the tags. But I'll be generic about it.....In the preview, it looks like there is a scene where one of the three chefs is yelling at another one and makes them upset. This is creative editing. And don't forget, I think every season Chef gives them each a chance to run the kitchen and practice being "tough" and having to "yell" at their staff to get them moving. I don't think what we saw in the preview was "real", but was part of the turn of one person running the kitchen.

At the closing of each episode they leave the kitchen and big pots are steaming on the ranges.

Is this for effect?

Or do restaurants really boil water in pots at the end of a shift?

Granted, it is no RKN from the BBC, but we saw the promo for KN and are looking forward to it, even if it is not as good. Maybe they'll have heard the people complaining about the difference and have change things up a bit.

I was well past the point of being sick of hearing Jen tell us how great she is and how much better her (non-winning) dish was than the one that actually DID win!

Effect or not, I'm glad she's gone.

The prize, supposedly, is to become Executive Chef at Ramsay's London restaurant in LA with a salary of $250,000. However, I wouldn't put any of them in charge of a Waffle House at this point, so I would think there's a LOT of training involved. After all, it's his name and reputation on the line - for real this time!

I don't mind a few misfits and diamond in the rough types in the contestant pool, but it really should be a mix. A few 'ringer' types there, a few diamonds in the rough, some total slugs, and some chefs that could be any of the above just to keep it all interesting.

If you mix in some ringer types you are still highly likely to get fireworks as the ringers will probably carry a bit of an ego and not want to just kowtow to Ramsay just because he's Ramsay. The slugs and misfits would still make it rough on their teams and teammates, and keep the yelling from Ramsay flowing and that is definitely a large part of why we watch the show (to see Ramsay dressing down the contestants).

I disagree. If I want GOOD chefs, I watch Top Chef. If I want entertainment, I watch HK.

The ONLY similarity between the two shows is the fact that there's food in them!

No self-respecting chef would ever want to appear on Fox in a reality show anyway!!
