I recently purchasec 240 sa2 tivo without hdd. Got a new hdd, instacake, ptv48 with enhancement and sapper. everything loaded smoothly and tivo booted up. tested phone line in setup and test call wont succeed (I have vonage). spent 2 days researching tivo and vonage, tried all suggested prefixes, nogo. maybe modem is broke.
Tried to use ppp. I have sa1 setup to use ppp. Read that with sa2 software 7.+, its no different, just use ,#211 and it will do it, again failure.
then I setup always on PPP. succeeded after a few goof-ups. I can now telnet into tivo, however no joy even after changing prefix to ,#401.
then I remembered the change in rc.arch for using ppp and ,#401, but the rc.arch looks totally different between sa1 and sa2. just for the hack of it, ported sa1 rc.arch file to sa2, no joy.
bought a wired usb network adapter which claimed to support linux (based on moschip7830). the badl uck continued. tivo says no driver for it, but it works on my linux machine.
so i need help
1. does any one have driver for moschip 7830 they can share, I know it is not likely.
2. Can anyone tell me what I am missing with always on PPP? I am sure it is telling tivo to go to ppp instead of looking to etho0 with dialing code of ,#401.
any help will be greatly appreciated.

Adapters don't work that way with TiVo. You need to get an adapter TiVo does have drivers for, or else get the source and compile it yourself.
