I'm sorry that this is so basic but our Tivo says "Series 3 HD Digital Media Recorder" (it is 300 hr basic format). Forum items often talk about Series 3 and Tivo HD. I'm not really sure when topics apply to what we have or not. Would someone explain this?

As an example, Comcast said we MUST have 2 cable cards and proceeded to install 2 M cards. It's their 3rd trip today to try to get everything to work - some of the digital lineup channels are ok, the basic network station HD's are ok, but none of their other HD channels in the lineup we are supposed to get work. (We also have a cable box separate and all the channels work there.) I guess things still aren't 'paired' up right.

It appears you have the Series 3. The Series 3 has a maximum recording capacity of 300 hours. The Series 3 has the model# TCD648250B. The Series 3 must have 2 cable cards installed for full dual tuner digital cable. The Series 3 cannot utilize the multistream capability of the M card.

The Tivo HD has max capacity of 180 hours. The Tivo HD has a model# TCD652160. The Tivo HD can use 1 multistream cable card or 2 single stream cards. The Tivo HD was designed based on the Series 3 so it is referred to as, and in a sense is, a Series 3, but is not The Series 3.

Simple as that. :D

The fact that things are not yet working properly has nothing to do with whether it's a Series 3 or a Tivo HD. As you say, Comcast just needs to get the cards paired properly.
