I just installed my new TiVo HD and am having issues with getting anything but 2 channel stereo to output to my receiver.

I have the TiVo hooked up via component video and digital optical to my receiver. (Yamaha RX-V659)

I have tried setting the output on the TiVo to both Dolby Digital and Dolby Digital + PCM with the same results. I do see the PCM icon on my receiver light up when using PCM, but the DD never lights up and the source speaker display always shows just the two speakers.

I am using the same inputs on the receiver that I had been using for my cable box that worked just fine with Dolby Digital. So I don't believe it is an issue with my receiver.

I do not currently have any cable cards installed and am using my cable companies basic cable and the OTA channels available. I turned on a movie last night that was being broadcast OTA in HD which I figured would include more than just stereo sound. No luck, so I am pretty sure that leaves just the TiVo as the problem.

I will be getting Cable Cards as soon as I get around to calling the cable company, so perhaps they will help the issue.

I do not believe this is related to the numerous other posts I have read about DD dropping since it has NEVER been on for me.

Thanks for any help. I'll probably call TiVo directly and see if they have any suggestions as well.

dumb question, but are watching a source that's Dolby Digital? not everything is.

When I'm watching something in DD via my Yamaha RX-V661 it will show DD when the network feed is going, but drops to Pro Logic 2 channel when they cut away to local or cableco inserted fields.

I'm not 100% clear on one thing: were you recording the movie using an antenna or via the cable company's signal?

When using the HD tivo you can press info and down to get to the audio broadcast information. If dolby digital isnt listed there for the program you are watching you wont get more than stereo sound. If it is listed and selected there and you still dont get the DD light on your reciever then you have an issue.

All the OTA digital HD channels should be in DD2.0 or higher. Mostly it's 2.0 except during primtime programming, and even then it ca still be 2.0 if the local channel doesn't have the equipment to pass DD5.1
