The dot matrix display on the front of my Series 3 recentlly stopped working. The clock still displays, but there is no display of the name of the program being recorded on viewed. I tried turning this setting on and off with the Settings menu several times but nothing changed. I also tried rebooting twice with no results. Any suggestions on what may be wrong?

I've already called TiVo. Their only solution was to send the unit to some place in Texas for service with a $149 minimum charge. I would like to know more about whether this is a common problem, or even a software problem before pulling the unit out of the cabinet, disconnecting a lot of hard to reach cables and spending $149. There is a user setting that allows turning the display on and off. I've tried that several times without success, but I wonder if there might be a bug in the software. Once when I rebooted (restarted) the unit it suddenly starting displaying closed captions and the user setting to turn that feature on and off had no effect. I'm wondering if there's a similar problem with the front panel display on/off setting.

The name of the show is never displayed during playback. Also, the name of the show isn't displayed if it's a Suggestion being recorded.
So if you press Record manually on a show, it doesn't appear on the display?

Have you tried rebooting again?
There is no know bug with the front OLED display. At least not by the industry standard for the deffinition of a bug. That is a issue that is reproduceable under certain instances on every box tested that meets those basic requirements.
The only things displayed on the OLED display are:
The Tivo icon on boot up of TiVo
The Clock
And TV shows that are scheduled to record. Manual recordings & suggestions do not show the show being recorded. Playback of a show is not shown either.
If their is a hardware problem with the OLED display. Such as the OLED display has "Burned" out. Then you won't get the TiVo guy icon on bootup. If your getting him on bootup, but nothing else. Then their might be other issues involved.
