View Full Version : Tivo HD, No signal. Can I use it just to watch/transfer?

So, I've moved out to the boonies, and I have a Series 3 and an HD with pre-recorded programming I'd like to watch. Problem is there's no way for me to get a signal to the TiVos to set them up with. No house antenna here and the rabbit ears I have don't pick up a thing.

Will a TiVo allow me to set it up or use it with no signal? In addition to wanting to watch what I've recorded, I'd like to extract some programming off of them & possibly even download some programs via Unbox.

Yes you can still view any programming left on the hard drive, and as long as they are subscribed you can use MRV/TTG and TiVo-sanctioned video download sources such as Amazon Unbox.

If you know for a fact that you get absolutely no OTA programming whatsoever, I would recommend not redoing Guided Setup and just de-selecting all of the Channels You Receive.

No cable or FiOS in your area? If not will a rooftop antenna be useful and will you be able to set one up? Unbox is great but if you rely on that for your primary TV viewing that can get pretty expensive.
