I just replaced a hard drive in my S3 Tivo due to an Issue I thought was related to the HDD based on the information I've read here. I used instantcake for the 400Gb WD drive and setup would be fine up until the Tivo Setup gets to the Preparing stage for downloading program information and it stays on that first step for about two-three minutes then re-boots. Can't get past this point.

I have ethernet broadband and HDMI cables attached. I've tried it with without any coax cables attached. I do have an occasion fan noise that eventually goes away on its own.

Any ideas? I'm pretty sure this too is somehow related to the 9.3 updates as this is the second S3 tivo in my house that has begun to display freezing, rebooting, and erratic behavior.

I'm having the same problem, but on a brand new Tivo HD. This first happenned about a week ago, I removed the cable cards (2 single stream cards from Comcast), reinserted them, and redid guided setup and the tivo worked right for about a week, and now it is doing it again.

Here's what I have:
Tivo HD connected to TV via HDMI (but had component a week ago when same thing happened)
Software version 9.3a, original Tivo HD drive, no external drive
Phone connection

Here's what happens:
When the tivo tries to connect over the phone line, it suddenly reboots. Two days in a row now I have had my viewing (and recording) interrupted by a sudden reboot because the tivo tried to make its scheduled connection to update program info. I tried to test the connection, and whenever I forced a connection, it rebooted. If I do "Connect to tivo service now" or "test the phone connection" it gives me the "preparing connection" text for a minute of two, and then, before it can even display "dialing", it stops and reboots.

Again, this is a brand new TivoHD. Anyone else have this problem and maybe know of a solution besides pulling out the cable cards and redoing guided setup each time this happens?

Thanks.

Removed the cable cards, restarted tivo, tried to connect, and again it didn't work and still rebooted at the "preparing to connect" stage. Removal and reinsertion of cable cards did nothing to fix this, and disconnecting cables (the cable coax, switching to component to tv, etc.) did nothing.

I'm still within 30 day return time at BB, so I'm just going to exchange the box for a new one tomorrow, but does anyone know what could have caused this problem and perhaps how to avoid it in the future?

Thanks,

JMC
