How long does it take for channels to get identified?
Just got my HD Tivo (the 20 HR of HD Programming one)

I just set it up, the comcast guy came and put the 2 cards in it. Channels 1-71 are ok.

I had to manually add all my channels past that point, but they all say To Be announced as far as the guide is concerned. Is there a way to force them to update or do I have to just wait?

Second question... with the Comcast motorola DVRl via composite cables all my HD feeds came in on 1080i, but with the Tivo some of them are coming in at 720p... is this normal?

Thats about it... any additional info you guys think I should be aware of will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!!

If you ran guided setup for the correct channel line up(digital + Cable cards) for your area then you should be able to update the guild data by forcing a connection to TiVo. (Messages and Settings =>Settings=>Phone & Network=>connect now)

You can select how TiVo formats the video output. Check the output format setting on your TiVo (Messages and Settings =>Settings=>video=>video output format). If it’s set to Native mode it will pass the format it gets from the station.

So is ESPN in 720p? I thought it was 1080i for some reason... although ESPN2 is coming in at 1080i....

Along this line, is there a 'preferred' output from Tivo setting? If not, what are the factors that lead you to choose one setting over another. In my case we have Tivo S3hd connected via HDMI to an HD-capable receiver in turn connected via HDMI to a Sony Bravia HD TV. Thank you.

ESPN has always been 720p, I would think ESPN2 would be also. I can't explain why you're getting 1080i, unless your TiVo is converting it to 1080i. What output format is your TiVo using?

I would select which ever scaler/converter does the best job converting the different broadcast formats. I have a 720p TV and the converter in the TiVo does a better job than my TV. Some people select Native mode because their TV does a better job converting the different broadcast formats. I also let the TiVo do the converting because it eliminates the flicker I got when I change channels because my TV was slower converting the broadcast signal.
