My TimeWarner install guy is here now setting up my TiVo HD. Despite what the manual says, and what I say, he's insisting I should have two M-Cards Cable Cards installed.

Is he wrong? I believe he is ... but he says he's not.

Yes, the THD can use a single M-Card (the S3 needs two). Make sure it's actually an M-Card and not a Motorola S-Card. I've read about installers insisting that a Motorola card and M-Card were the same thing, which is not necessarily always true.

Okay, even the TiVo display indicated that I had the M-Card installed, and the 2nd card would not be used, so I had him take it back. Seemed to work fine with the M-Card. Gotta love cable guys that know less than the customers.

Your tech probably wasn't aware that only the original Series 3 requires two cards regardless of type, and that the THD model can use a single multi-stream card.

If that's the only flaw in the knowledge of that particular tech, consider yourself lucky. The first guy who came out to install mine tried to put it in backwards. Then he left before I could tune in all of my channels, saying that I should receive them "shortly."
