Had a storm here last night. The lights flickered.

Now, my 540 S2 can't get past "powering Up." I unplugged , waited a half hour and replugged.

Now it shows "Powering Up," and then goes to a white screen (WSOD?) after a minute or so.

All suggestions are welcome!

Thanks,

Try rebooting the TiVo by unplugging it for several minutes and remove any network adapter before plugging the TiVo back in.

If you are fortunate enough to get it up and running again, be sure to get an uninterupted power supply (UPS). They do more than surge protectors do. Not only do they protect against spikes, but also protect against dips. In other words, they even out the current. That takes a lot of wear and tear off the hard drive and power supply in the TiVo making them last longer.

I have three TiVoes on UPSs. I also have my cable modem and router on a UPS. Power goes out and I can still record--unless the cable goes out, too.

I'll try the reboot without the adapter tonight.

Do you think its the hard drive or power supply? I've never heard of a white screen associated with TiVo...

My 540 s2 has the same problem. I haven't done anything about it, so I'm hoping you can figure it out :)

I thought it was the hard drive because sometimes while watching it would make noises and it was hang occasionally. Now it won't get past powering up and has the white screen as well.

If you are going to open the box up anyway, check the drive see if it still goes to the all white screen with the hard drives IDE cable disconnected.

Warning there can be potentially lethal voltages in there even when the unit is unplugged.
