Charter is coming out next week to attempt to install the Cable Cards in my TiVo HD. I do not yet have an HDTV, just a crappy old tube (that will change soon though) but my TiVo is hooked up to my 5.1 system via optical. On the digital cable channels and premiums like HBO, will I get 5.1 from them (when broadcast in that obviously) or do you only get multichannel on the high-def channels? Thanks

SD digital channels are all in DD2.0.

HD channels are in DD5.1 depending on content. I think non-5.1 source items come through in 2.0.

Get an HDTV. You'll kick yourself for not getting one sooner! :)

I just graduated college and start my new job in a couple weeks. That's the first thing I'm buying when I get that first paycheck ;)

Many SD DIGITAL channels are DD5.1 capable. Such as SD HBO & SD Showtime.

TGC

edit: SOME Channels SD & HD have DD5.1 and some do not, sometimes even when a channel IS capable of having DD5.1, the show they are broadcasting may not have been produced with DD5.1. So check your show listing. In my area it will SAY if the show is DD5.1 or not. If it doesn't say, then it isn't. On my HBO (SD-Digital channel) most everything is DD5.1

So again... check your show listings, it will say.
