I'm fairly new to TiVo ownership and I'd like some input on a couple of problems before I call call TiVo and/or Cablevision.
The setup: HD Series 3 Unit (with the smaller hard drive) and a Western Digital 500gig auxiliary drive. Currently I have no cable cards installed.
I've had the whole setup two or three months.
Problem 1: Random Reboots. I purchased ah HD TiVo unit directly from TiVo . It is randomly rebooting, sometimes two or three times in succession, other times during record or playback. No pattern. The unit is set up in a "temporary" position until I can rearrange my full system. At first I thought the unit may be getting hot, but the problem continues even though I've moved it to a better (cooler) location. It has diminished though.
Problem 2: This one started a couple of days back after Cablevision switched some channels to "digital only - must have box". I have a good signal at the co-ax, but the TiVo gets a "no signal" on ALL channels. It had been working well until the Cablevision switch.
I am planning on getting the cards soon. Will this fix #2 or is there a potential problem with the unit? Does #1 indicate a defect? If the unit is defective, should I wait to get the cards until I get a replacement.
