Hi everybody. I need some help. Previously, I've had my Tivo on a wireless network without issues. However, I just moved into a new building that provides wireless to all the residents and I'm having trouble. We are given a WEP password but then, the first time we go to the internet from a computer, we have to enter a username and password. While I can enter the WEP password into my Tivo, I have no idea how to get past this next step. Any advice?

You probably can't. The best bet you can probably do is to set up your computer to share your wireless connection to your ethernet connection and then connect your Tivo up via ethernet.

Thanks, but that's a bit confusing to me (I'm not well versed here). What would I have to do?
You would connect an ethernet cable from your Tivo to your computer. Then you'd set the computer up to share the WiFi connection to the ethernet connection. I'm mainly a Mac guy and don't have my Windows machines w/in easy reach right now to remember how to do that. You should be able to do a Google search for it. Here, I just did. Try this article: http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/xp_ics/

Thanks, although from what I can tell, there is no ethernet jack on my tivo. My tivo is about 5 years old. It has a USB connection (obviously since my wireless used to work) but I'll keep investigating.

I think someone asked about this same thing recently and someone suggested that if you are using a wireless adapter that is not the Tivo adapter, you may be able to connect that adapter to your computer and connect to the network and enter a username and password and then return the adapter to the Tivo and have a network connection. This would assume that the login and permission to connect is associated to the mac address of the adapter.

Get a USB ethernet adapter then, as well as a crossover ethernet cable.
