View Full Version : How can I setup an autorecording wishlist that excludes a specific channel?
How can I set up an autorecording wishlist that records all episodes of a show (ex. CSI) on all channels it appears on, but excludes episodes on a specific channel?
Thanks,

Only thing I can think of is to remove that channel from your 'Channels I Receive' list. I guess you could also set up season passes for that show on each channel that you want it to record.

The reason I want to do this is one of the channels that the show appears on is a digital cable channel. I don't routinely leave my cable box on, and the show seems to appear at odd hours so I was just going to ignore that channel since the show comes on plenty of other channels.
I don't want to set up a boatload of season passes or remove the channel either. If nobody else has any ideas, I'll have to see what happens when it tries to record the channel if the cable box is off.

What happens if you set up a non-recording season pass for the show on the channel you don't want to record, and make that higher priority than the auto-recording wishlist? Does the wishlist still schedule a recording?

it will record an hour of black screen. At least that is what happens on my DT with cable box.
Go with the season pass for that channel with Keep at most 1 at a higher priority than the wishlist so it will take precedence and I think that way you just have one hour long black screen at a time

No such thing.

What happens if you set up a non-recording season passNo such thing.I assume he means a season pass set to First Run Only. (Which shouldn't record anything, since I think the channel is all reruns)

and I assume he doesn't know what he's talking about.
since no one else has mentioned this
Why shut off the cable box at all? It still uses just as much electricity.

Are we sure about this? If that is so then why would it even have an off switch? Even if this is correct, I'd still like to know if setting up an AR wishlist like this is possible.
The season pass/first run option sounds promising, I'll look into that.
Thanks

not really - it will just not find any First Run and of course not schedule anything from that channel. then the wishlist will see them as open and if no conflict will record the shows from that channel as well.
your only bet this way is the Keep at most 1 and keep both season pass and wishlist below most other season passes.
If it was me I would just leave the cable box on and look ofr better costs savings like a new front loading washer or siwtching out light bulbs for fluorescent in key places, etc..

Sounds completely silly and useless to me.

So the only thing we know for sure is Scandia's avatar is well chosen! Thanks to all others that took a shot.
