I'm curious. What is the difference between the Comcast TiVo and the regular TiVo software?

I have an HD TiVo myself.

The regular Tivo software works.

The Comcast Tivo has SDV and Entertainment on demand support while the standalone tivo's need the sdv adapter, but it only will do sdv not EOD.

The SDV adapter does not exist yet and SDV is not deployed in New England
so as of now it's not a concern.

The OP wanted to know the differences. While SDV has not been deployed yed it's only a matter of time.

I've had both. When I was using the Comcast w/TiVo, even OnDemand didn't work well. Sometimes it didn't work at all, the rest of the time it was flaky.

I liked SeanTivo's original reply - the TiVoHD works.

To be fair, with the latest software the Comcast Tivo does work, just very poorly. The latest software seems only to be available north of Boston.

It is very slow responding to key presses, crashes every couple of weeks, occasionally doesn't record what it's supposed to, and the search features are often messed up. The normal Tivo is far better on all these and is a pleasure to use, but with care, patience and persistence, the Comcast box does work. I am willing to deal with it, my wife isn't at all and we use our old SD Tivo as a backup.

The Comcast Tivo does offer access to On Demand which the normal Tivo doesn't and is quite a bit less expensive.

That sounds great. How do I sign up?

Loved SeanTiVo's reply. But what I mainly wanted to find out is what was added or removed from the TiVo interface that took so long for it to get implemented once they decided to team up. I know they had to put the Comcast title on the menu screens and they added the picture window to watch TV while you are programming the TiVo (something I don't understand since I pause TV when I need to do something else).

What else was changed?

Well, with Comcast's version you do NOT get:
Multi-room viewing
Tivo To Go
TivoCasts, PodCasts, etc.
Amazon Unbox
KidZone
Any way at all to expand storage capacity beyond the standard 160GB (or 120GB)

I'm new to Comcast Tivo, but became a fan years ago when we had DirecTV. I tried to program the remote for a 30-second skip - using the instructions posted all over the net. Didn't work...has anyone had any luck with this?
Thanks!

The usual TiVo 30-sec skip code doesn't work for the Comcast version. There is a code, though. It's in another thread in this forum:
