For the past 48 hours or so I have been getting a message on my screen "searching for satellite". Sometimes it is Satellite in 1, sometimes Satellite in 2. Because I am getting the message concerning both tuners I have not switched the cables. We have had fierce winds here in N California for 2 days (25 mph sustained, 40+ mph gusts). Upon visual inspection, the dish seems to have not been affected by the winds. Could the dish have been moved just slightly by the wind, or would it have to be a noticeable amount of movement to cause loss of signal. When I check signal strength, it is in the 20 - 30 range. Normally in the 90s. This unit is an R10, about 4 years old. Any ideas on the cause of this would be helpfull.

The wind has moved your dish if you are getting 20-30 range. You will have to have the dish realigned.

A couple of storms moved my dish recently. Calling D* is a complete waste of time if you are the least bit handy with a wrench. I tried to get a free service call but they wouldn't budge over the $90 fee. Plus it was 100% their fault since they required "professional" installation of their new dish. I spent less time dragging my ladder out and adjusting my dish 1/8" to the right than I spent on the phone. I tightened everything when I was up there. Since then we have had a storm with gusts of 65mph and my satellite signal strength has not waivered.

Is there a method to adjusting the dish yourself? I am afraid if I tried to move it, i would only make it worse. At any rate, I called D* this morning. Actually a pretty good experience. They set me up for a service call at a convienent time for me tomorrow and said there is NO FEE. I didn't even have to ask about a fee, they just offered it. A pleasent suprise, I must say.
