We changed our phone service to Vonage about a month ago. I recently discovered that our 2 RCA DVR80's will not work with Vontage. We also have an R10 DVR that can make calls. I have spent alot of time searching on the internet & read many fixes that other people have used. Most of the ideas are 2 - 4 years old. I have read that a phone line is not needed & I will only get messages telling me to connect the DVR to a phone line, otherwise the DVR will work fine. I have read others say that the DVR will stop working unless it can call Tivo. I have read that I can add an external modem, but some modems may not work. I did not find any info on modems that would work. I can add software to network the DVR but that would be wiped out if Directv does a software upgrade.
My wife & I do not want to give up Tivo, but I do not want to spend alot of money upgrading older hardware & still have issues with connecting to Tivo.
I do not know what to do. I do know that my wife is going to be very unhappy if she loses her Tivo.

Unplug the phone line - it's that simple.

We have modems that work with Vonage here:

but it's true - this model doesn't need to dial in to keep working. You just can't get PayPerView (after a point) and software updates without an active modem.
