My TiVo has always 'timed out' after a program had been paused for a long period of time and would dump to live tv.

Suddenly, paused programs will stay paused forever now.

Why was this changed? Is there a setting to prevent this...?

I believe you're mistaken. As I recall it, programs have always stayed paused forever. It's only menus that time out.

It's always been this way.

+2. I've had TiVo since 2001 and have never known it to be any other way.

Always been that way, from what I remember.

Ok... :) I normally don't leave stuff paused. Guess I was just remembering wrong....

If you don't do anything while in a TiVo menu, it times out and goes to live TV.
If you pause a previously-recorded program, it pauses forever.
If you pause live TV, after the buffer fills, it starts playing again.

That's the way I remember it's always been...

That's how it's always worked on my Series 2 and Series 3.
