View Full Version : Turbonet no longer allows 'net daily calls

Hi,

I have an upgraded UK TiVo with a Turbonet(/Terbonet) ethernet card. It connects to my WiFi modem router via a Belkin access point, so that it can do Daily Calls over the 'net.

All was working fine, until I got a new router (a Thomson) which had a different gateway address, and - thanks to its ISP-configured firmware - wouldn't allow me to change it. Fine, I thought, I'll just Telnet in to 192.168.1.61 (my TiVo cards IP address) and change its gateway setting to that of my new router's.

nic_config seemingly allowed this, I then (don't ask me why) typed 'restart' [Return] and the Telnet session hung. Maybe that's a red herring, but since then, I've not been able to telnet into or ping the TiVo. Worst of all, the daily calls now fail too. The web frontend hasn't worked for a while either, and ability to ping used to be a bit hit and miss (which I put down to the often-flaky Belkin).

Gateway
--------
Old router (Siemens): 192.168.1.1
New router (Thomson): 192.168.1.254

IP ranges
---------
Old router (Siemens): 192.168.1.x
New router (Thomson): 192.168.1.x

I've tried connecting the Turbonet's ethernet cable directly into the old and new routers (and the old router configured both as .254 and .1 gateways) and also via the Belkin WiFi access point, but still the daily calls fail.

The access point works fine (I've surf the web from a PC plugged into instead of the TiVo) and other devices on the router (and I've turned these devices off to avoid any IP conflicts etc) can also access the web fine.

### Q. Does anyone know how to reset the Turbonet card and/or server software (and/or finding out their health/settings via the TV screen) with default IP (192.168.2.100, I think) without reverting to mucking about with the server software in a PC or similar? I'm no Linux expert (I bought the already-upgraded machine second hand) plus I don't have a desktop PC to put the hard drive into. ###

A wise man has already pointed out that replacing the TiVo card won't fix matters, as it's the server software that is probably the issue. That said, I'm gonna open the TiVo and check the ethernet LEDs are lit to make sure it's not a hardware issue.

The wise man also told me that the gateway setting being mucked up would just prevent me from getting the daily calls working off the net, but shouldn't stop the TiVo from being accessed over the LAN. Packettrapper software cannot the TiVo when searching the entire LAN for IP, MAC or Port usage either.

Thanks in advance for any help that anyone can offer.

Simon
