View Full Version : Windows Media Player Issue with Tivo Files

I am having this infrequent issue that happens with files that I have been transferring between Tivo and computer via Tivo Desktop Plus.

Essentially once say out of every 10-15 shows that I transfer, when I then play through on Windows Media Player 11 the time line is only 25%-33% the total length. So for example the show will be an hour long, but in WMP11 it will look 21 minutes long. Now when it is played to 21 minute and seconds after words, it keeps playing past the 21 minutes to the full hour. But if you pause the file resets... so if you want to pause the file at say minute 30, you have to restart the file push it to 21 and then let it play 9 minutes to catch up. In a nutshell, annoying.

So I tried converting the .tivo file with Direct Show Filter Dump to an .mpg, and same thing! But if I play the .mpg in VLC media player I get the full 1 hour. This has happen for both HD and SD shows. My guess is that the header of the file gives the incorrect end time (or WMP reads the correct time, incorrectly).

Is there a way to fix this? Anyone else have this issue?

You are not alone, I have the same problem using a fresh install of Vista Media player only shows a recording length of 12 for a 30 minute SD recording that I uploaded from a Series3.

Yup me too. I suspect that this problem may also be the reason why I cannot successfully transfer programs back to my TiVo S3.

TTG - Incorrect Video Lengths after transfer (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=371938)

It is a codec problem if I recall correctly.
