Beauty & The Geek "Finale" 5/13/08 *SPOILERS*

I was happy to see Tommy and Amanda beat Chris and Cara, but I would have preferred to have Matt and Leticia in the final. My wife was practically heartbroken when Matt picked himself as who Leticia would have said is the best looking person in the house, and she choose a beauty instead. Poor guy.

I was a little surprised to see that Amber was still being flirty with Tommy, although you could play that off as her gunning for him to spend some of his prize money on her.

All in all not a bad season. Not my favorite, but solid, once they moved away from the 'Beauty vs the Geek' format. Nice to see Jillian and Tiffany back, even if it was just for a few seconds :)

I thought the 'most beautiful person in the house' question was totally loaded and, yeah, groaned out loud when Matt named himself. Ouch.

Good to know Amber's still running the same game. Blech.

I was rooting for Matt and Leticia. They seemed like the nicest people there. Tommy wasn't much of a geek and Chris was a total prick. Cara was annoying and Amanda was just wasn't interesting.

You are right about Tommy. Hooking up with the beauties should disqualify 'geeks.' Cause if they are doing that... they really aren't geeks

I was really glad that Chris and Cara didn't win, but I wish they'd have been eliminated weeks ago. This was the second season in a row that a "beauty" with a horribly annoying voice made it to the finals. At least we still had Amanda to look at throughout the final episode, and even got a couple glimpses of Jillian and Tiffany.

I was also surprised at all the drama when the rest of the cast came back, and that none of it included Randi.

George Clooney??? I can't believe Letcia got that question wrong. I barely know Matt and knew what his answer would be. They would have won the challange on that question. I was really rooting for them.

As mentioned, Tommy is not really a geek and did not belong on the show. He was just an normal guy with bad tastes in clothes.

So glad Chris did not win. For some reason every time I saw his face I wanted to punch it 4 or 5 times. Hated his dim-bulb, squeaky-voiced partner as well.

I actually don't think the ratings were that bad this season (but I haven't looked at them very closely) considering it's The CW.

Hopefully someone else will clear that up.

As for Tom not being a geek - where you folks watching the same show I was? He didn't strike me as anyway near as social adept at, say, Chris (who I really didn't think belonged on the show). Even Matt, prior to his 'transformation,' was a smoother cat than Tommy. But yes, Tommy didn't have the unkempt look (when the show started) to fit his personality. Unlike Joe, who definitely needed to be on this show...

Tommy may have been awkward around girls and didn't have the greatest taste in fashion, but he didn't ever come across to me as geeky. Matt, on the other hand, always came across as geeky, even after the "transformation," simply because his coke-bottle glasses and speech impediment were still there.

I FF to the end after Matt and Leticia lost. I did not like either of the last 2 couples. I just never got into this season I did not like the cast very much and the whole beauty vs geek put me off the first few episodes. It sucks this is the last season but the producers brought it on themselves with stupid stunts like sam and the vs this season.

Are you sure it was cancelled? In the past, it seemed like reality shows were often "picked up" later, and not on the official schedules.

Also, I missed about the first 20 minutes (I had it scheduled to record on my non-Tivo for space-on-tivo reasons, and I forgot I had too many shows on that other recorder.. i.e. it wasn't a disk space thing, but it literally only has space for a few hundred titles)..

Well, The Futon Critic is listing it as canceled (http://www.thefutoncritic.com/showatch.aspx?id=beauty_and_the_geek), as are most other outlets covering the upfronts. In the past The CW (and The WB before it) always mentioned that BATG would return 'in the spring' - I believe this past fall was the first time the show aired in that season - so it doesn't leave a lot of room for optimism.

I would love for it to come back though. It's just one of those concepts (I think) that could be mined for a while longer.

Hope you get to watch the first 20 minutes since they were the most interesting ones of the show.

They suggested that the CW might revive it after a few seasons (if, of course, the CW is even still around)

Totally agree, but I'll admit it took me several eps before I realized it (mostly because in those early episodes I was blinded by Jillian and Tiffany).

So, what was that person I had never heard of when they asked if the geeks were like Einstein, or George Clooney, or ??? Who was that person, I'd never heard of him/it, and one of the contestants also said same thing. That to me was a rigged question. I would have expected the guys to all say Einstein too, they were geeks after all, no one ever says Clooony is anything smart. But who was the other guy?

Dane Cook (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0176981/). He's a comedian. So the choices were between a smart guy, a good-looking guy and a funny guy.

Perhaps you might expect the guys to say "Einstein", but would you expect the girls to think that the guys would say that?

Actually, it was a beauty (Amanda, actually) who said that she didn't know who he was, and actually wrote down Dan Cook.

Don't forget, making money is only part of the equation. They also have to be maximizing the POTENTIAL money from their timeslot. If The CW thinks they can stick a show in that slot and make $1 million per episode*, then the fact that BATG only makes $500k per episode* means they're losing money. Whether The CW is right remains to be seen, but that's how network execs think.

*These numbers are just hypothetical to make the point.

Dan cook, barely even heard of him before. That was funny. Leticia just makes me cringe when i see her..i dont know if it's the bad makeup or the ever squinty eyes. I'm so glad that amber apparently had orders to keep quiet once in the limo. Must have been superhard for her. And my wife reminded me these were 'girls' when i said 'are we in high school here?" When they were all in the kitchen then living room it was like 'oh she said this about me, and that and i cant take this'. I thought i was watching mtv for a minute. SO WHAT if they say something about you? But my wife said girls must defend their honor like that. No one realizes by ignoring people and not responding, most stuff goes away.

I did and didnt like the end. it was much better than 'how many moons does jupiter have' questions. But it just seemed that during the contest they all would know what the other person had because of the cards that were on the floor?
