I really laughed a lot at this one. Definitely one of their better episodes. Penny was extraordinarily cute in this one too.
" '1234' is not a secure password! "
"It's supposed to be something fun that they wouldn't buy for themselves!" "You mean like a sweater?"

I loved the line from Howard in the hospital "I do this for you little buddy" and he looks at his crotch.
Sheldon in the BB was great. Something like "It all depends on what Bus you take" and the guy looks at him dazed and says "I drive a chevy cavalier" (or something like that)
Excellent!

I had to pause because I was laughing so hard at Howard's reaction to Penny's. "I'll point out which of my friends are easy."
And then I had to pause again after Howard's, "Don't toy with me, woman!"
(And I never got a birthday kiss like that from a female "friend".)

Me neither.
Those out there who were arguing that Penny didn't have any romantic feelings for Leonard.... Wadda think now!?
She wants to be with Leonard, but is embarrassed by what she perceives as the social stigma of dating a "nerd". She dates uncaring, selfish, dim, body-builder types because it's what she perceives as what society expects.

I liked Penny's comment to Sheldon that if he doesn't help her throw the surprise party, she's gonna open his mint, sealed comics and draw a smiley face on one but he won't know which. :)

This was funny from start to finish. Although I don't think they really do do colonoscopies for anaphylaxic shock victims. :D
Raj telling Penny to use the phrase "non-optional social convention" to convince Sheldon.
Penny's listing of her friends most likely to get down with Howard. And at the end, when she indicates that she'll keep her word and call one of them for Howard. She's a good egg, if not an egghead.
I watch this and How I Met Your Mother live, then Gossip Girl, and then Bones. That's it for the evening -- and I haven't even gotten to the 9 p.m. shows yet! Mondays are overloaded.

And then had to almost draw him a diagram to connect that connect the dots between that and blackmail. :D:up:

Probably depends on how much say that recieving nurse has in his treatment. ;)
She has to be almost certain that Howard deliberatly exposed himself to peanuts after she refused to play along with his fake attack. Calling in a favor to inflict an unneccessary colonoscopy seems only fair :D

I do think they'd be leaving her on the side line but they sure made up for it this week. She has some great lines along with Howard.
I almost soiled myself when he said "this is for you buddy" as he ate the peanut.
Best episode yet.

Who the heck was she? I recognized her face right away, and I think she was a "fairly" big star at some point in the past.. maybe 10-20 years. Some searching, and I see that it's Vernee Watson-Johnson (also known just as Vernee Watson)... oh, and she was apparently in the pilot too. She's been in tons of stuff, but I don't see what I would have recognized her from in a regular role, except maybe Diagnosis Murder (hangs head). Though admittedly it's a low percentage overall, she still seems to have played a nurse a lot.

Those out there who were arguing that Penny didn't have any romantic feelings for Leonard.... Wadda think now!?I think exactly the same thing. Her reaction after the kiss was definitely not that of someone who suddenly realizes that she made a mistake or let her real feelings show and was embarrassed. To me it looked like she was sorry his birthday had gone so wrong and wanted to do something nice for him. She knows Leonard has a crush on her, of course. I do think Penny genuinely likes Leonard and thinks he's very sweet, and I would guess that if the show lasts long enough they will end up together at some point. But, right now, she's not into him that way.
She wants to be with Leonard, but is embarrassed by what she perceives as the social stigma of dating a "nerd". She dates uncaring, selfish, dim, body-builder types because it's what she perceives as what society expects.Sorry, I'm still calling BS on this. As I said last time, this is just an imposition of a stereotypical prejudice for how a pretty woman would interact with nerdy guys, that has absolutely no foundation in the actual show.
Penny was just giving "thought and imagination" into the gift she was giving Leonard for missing his birthday party.. ;)

I actually think it's pretty accurate. It's clear that Penny genuinely likes Leonord and Sheldon. But, it's also quite clear that she finds them a bit embarrassing and she still continues to date jocks despite the fact that she is beginning to see that they should be more to a relationship than physical prowess. I think they'll slowly show her maturing in her attitude and becoming more accepting of the differences between them.
That's just a natural process of becoming a real adult. Case in point. I went to college with a guy who was proud of the fact that he always dated hot chicks. ( think Charlie on Two and a half men). I told him that would change and he insisted it would not. Flash forward 10 years to a college reunion and I met his delightful but pretty homely wife. Love conquers all.

I like this show and liked this episode (although not as much as others here), but I feel like they're still finding their way and figuring out who the characters are. The writing is a bit uneven, making Sheldon range from strong nerdiness to highly unstable obnoxious sociopath. Meanwhile Leonard is turning more and more into a normal person. They need to move both characters more towards the center (center of both of them, not center of human behavior). Is it Lorne Michaels intention to turn them into the Lenny and Squiggy of the 21st Century?

Favorite lines:
Sheldon at the cash register: "Okay, we don't have that in stock, but we can special order it." :D
Raj/Penny: "It's a non-optional social convention." Sheldon's change of heart to that simple phrase was hilarious.
Great episode.

It was actually Howard, not Raj, with the whole 'non-optional social convention.' (Sheldon came with a manual. Ha!)
The part that might be throwing folks off was that immediately before that point Raj - thru Howard - was asking about what to do if folks (read: pretty girls) showed up and Penny, Sheldon, etc hadn't arrived yet.

I actually think it's pretty accurate. It's clear that Penny genuinely likes Leonord and Sheldon. But, it's also quite clear that she finds them a bit embarrassingSee, this is exactly where the entire argument falls down for me. You say it's "quite clear", but it's not only not clear, it's just not true. In fact I can't think of one single instance where Penny has acted embarrassed of or for Leonard, in particular, or the other guys either. She rolls her eyes at the particularly nerdy stuff and teases them about it, but she invites them to her parties, introduces them, never pretends she doesn't know them or treats them badly when she has company, heck she even tries to set them up with her girlfriends. And if she isn't embarrassed by them, then the whole scenario you're constructing doesn't stand up.
I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree. You can watch the show and interpret it your way, and I'll interpret it mine. Personally I think your show is cliched and reductive, while mine has some fresh and interesting aspects... so I like mine a lot better :)
