NBC has scheduled a news conference for Monday to make an announcement about its late-night lineup that has been in the works for 18 months and has been all but formalized since February: Jimmy Fallon, the former cast member of “Saturday Night Live,” is to be named the third host — after David Letterman and Conan O’Brien — of NBC’s “Late Night” talk show.

I'll occasionally watch Leno, but I haven't watched one of these shows routinely since Kilborn left/retired :( :(

Is he going to bring Horatio Sanz on as a guest and then just laugh all the way through the interview?

Based on "Weekend Update" with Fallon, you know the answer is "yes" to the second part of that question. :)

I can go to bed earlier!

I just hope Conan doesn't try to 'do' the 'Tonight Show.'

I still think moving Conan to LA is a horrible idea. The only way I see him pulling off the Tonight Show is if Andy Richter comes back as his sidekick, they might be able to be the new Johnny and Ed.

Anyone know if NBC or anyone else has announced what Leno's plans are for the future?

Last I heard he was thinking of going somewhere else for a show in the 11:30 slot. Like ABC, if they would dump Nightline.

He can't be any worse than Conan. Conan just cracks too many jokes and acts like a twelve year old spaz with female guests such that his interviews are usually worthless.

Conan's a funny guy and has done a lot of hilarious things on his show, but his interviews are the worse of all the late night shows, imo.

Can't imagine Fallon being even worse.

Well this will be 5 hours of programming a week I won't have to watch.

I agree, the return of Andy Richter would be great.

First Letterman was going to kill Nightline.. now the rumor is that Leno's going to? That's funny (with the history of the late night wars).

With a new round of shake-ups in late-night television set to begin next year, Lorne Michaels has decided to try to get a jump on things by starting NBC’s next edition of “Late Night,” with its new host Jimmy Fallon, as a nightly entry on the Internet.

Mr. Fallon has been named as the replacement for Conan O’Brien when Mr. O’Brien takes over the “Tonight” show from Jay Leno next year, and Mr. Michaels, the long-time boss of NBC’s “Saturday Night Live,” who also serves as executive producer of “Late Night,” told television reporters here Sunday that he wants Mr. Fallon to work out as many of the rough spots in his presentation as possible in performances on a website.

Mr. Michaels said he did not know yet which site he will use to post the shows with Mr. Fallon, but he was sure of several of the plans:

The web performances will likely begin in the fall, long before the transition from Mr. Leno for Mr. O’Brien is set to take place. The entries will not constitute anything like an entire hour-long show. “I expect that we’ll do something like five or 10 minutes,” Mr. Michaels said.

Good luck getting any kind of interviewing experience in that format.

I expect Jimmy Fallon's Show to mimic the Tom Green show where he broadcasts it from his home. Ugh!

I foresee problems for Conan already: you're supposed to sit down on chairs, not step into them.

Well, I record the late night talk shows. My favorite hosts in order are Jay Leno, Craig Fergason, and then the others in any order you want.

I'm wondering if Conan will change his schtick? With a DVR I just FF to whatever guest might be interesting, otherwise it's the delete button.

Does anyone else have issue with Leno's audio> One minute he's speaks quite loudly, then he trails off and starts mumbling. To compound this, the audience mics are turned up way too loud, probably because they want him to seem funnier....

Conan is the worst late night interviewer there is. He has a tendency to interrupt guests to act like a spaz and guests can't get in a word.

For that reason alone, I'm willing to give Fallon at least a chance.
