i am soon going to buy that tivo wireless usb thing and i am going to get tivo desktop plus. what i would like to do is transfer my recordings from my tivo to a dvd. i know this has been asked a thousand times. but, can i just transfer them to my laptop and then burn them to a dvd. my laptop has a dvd burner on it right now. it's a sony (vgn-cr4000 is the model if that helps) i really don't want to have to buy any more software like sonic or whatever it is. will i be able to just use the dvd burner that is already on my computer. thanks sooo sooo much.
i don't need to even remove commercials. i just want to take what i've recorded on tivo, transfer it to my computer, then make a copy of that. why can't i do that without having to buy all this other junk.

You don't want to just burn .tivo files to DVD as a data disc. You need to author a DVD disc. That takes specific software.
The undisputed champ is VideoReDo TVSuite. But that costs money, but worth it if you do it a lot.
There are free, more complicated methods; TivoDecode+DVDStyler+ImgBurn. (aka the Dan203 method (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&client=firefox-a&channel=s&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&hs=0Eh&q=site%3Ativocommunity.com+dan203+method&btnG=Search))
Dan203 is also the programmer of the DVD authoring portion of VideoReDo TV Suite.

After you have used a editing program to remove commercials you might want to try this neat little program. total video2dvd author its not free but is really handles converting most formats to what you need to play back on a DVD

They have a few other programs that you might find useful too.

VR TVS will remove commercials and author the disc. And it is also Tivo "aware".
It is just a matter of whether you can afford the price of admission.
