Hello,
I have a series one and love it! I am running a 13 year old projection TV and I am going to buy a 42 or 46 LCD TV. Will the picture look the same, better or worse. I know that DTV had HD channels, but I would think the Tivo is a bottleneck.
I just do not want to make a mistake and have a crappier picture.
Thanks

Picture will look better,no convergence alignment needed.

Would the sixe( 42" or 46") matter? Will I notice more artifacts with the LCD than the projection?
Thanks!

Studies by cnet indicate you will notice an improved picture if you sit within 7 feet from the screen. depending on you age and if you have perfect vision. I am over 60 and wear glasses so no difference for me.

Keep in mind that the majority of HD TVs do an awful job with SD sources.

I would think it's going to look worse actually since your old projection TV was not HD. BUT if you had a very large projection (I remember those were HUGE) and now your new HDTV is much smaller then you may not notice a difference.
No matter what SD isn't going to look all that great on an HDTV. However I can barely remember the last time I actually watched SD since I have 90+ HD channels to choose from and pretty much every show I watch is in HD. ;)

One thing I noticed after switching to a HR10 (my HR20 and 21 are similar in this) is that even SD content on DirecTV looks better than it did with the DSR704 (on the same HDTV) because of the limitations of S-Video.

Same here, using an HD receiver via component gave a better SD picture for me. But the OP is looking at using the same old Series 1 Tivo and thus won't get that benefit.

A lot will depend on how well that TV upconverts the resolution. Also turn down the brightness and contrast settings of the new TV.

Well, I bought a 46" Sanyo and it is not as bad as I thought. I guess later on when I upgrade, It will be even better. Now I cannot wait until my Xbox comes back from repair :)
