Wow, has this show gone downhill fast. It was never a masterpiece but my wife and I dug it enough to have a season pass, but the last several eps have been horrible. The new 'little brother' they brought in is unwatchable. Many of the major players in the show are now making nothing more than cameos.
This show went from "that was kinda funny" to "damn, that was bad". Had to cancel the SP.

I think there is too much JB Smoove and not enough of the Woodcocks.

The little brother was very annoying. He wasn't in the last episode though, and it was much better than unwatchable. Maybe even mediocre.

I haven't seen this week's episode yet, but I thought that bringing in the "little brother", and keeping him as a character, is actually pretty funny. He could be used too much, but hasn't been so far to me.
Though I admit that this show & back to you are both ones that I wouldn't really care much if they were cancelled. They're "filler" sitcoms. Sometimes I watch them while I walk on the treadmill.

I like the little bro and the Woodcocks. I guess the screen isn't big enough for both of them.

I think this is the classic issue where Brad Garret realized his and Joely Fisher's lives were not the funny part of the show it was the Woodcocks so he had the producers dial down that aspect of the show. Garrett is not going to be second banana again after Raymond.

I don't think 'til Death has been funny since well back into season 1 and even then it might only have smelled funny, not been funny.

According to reports, the new sidekick is the main reaosn the show got renewed for next season.

then that's a good thing - we need more 1/2 hour filler shows :)
Sometimes I don't have the energy to watch a full hour - shows like Til Death, Back to You, According to Jim all serve that purpose for me.

Entertainment Weekly had a blurb that the show was renewed only with the premise of it being re-tooled. The Woodcocks are gone (no more Steph ) and the little brother role will be expanded and he will be made a recurring character.
Now if Fox was smart they would spin off a show called Steph and let us see her sorted past she always alluded to. Now that would be a good show.

Are you referring to "Second Marriage Guy", the episode where the guy made a list of things he expected from his 2nd wife before he married her?
I noticed at the end, the copyright date was 2007! I was looking at the credits and noticed the copyright date, ran it back and froze it to make sure. I wonder if this was an episode filmed/taped before the writer's strike and they just now showed it for some reason.

Ok, that's lame. I don't mind even a *very* much reduced presence of the Woodcocks, but they seemed to be a good contrast for the main characters.
I hope they at least explain it in the story. (They had to move away to take care of one of their ailing parents or something.)
Yes, it's still a "filler" show IMHO, but this is silly.

I like Smooth. He was awesome on Curb, but this move is just weird. He is funny on there.. but really the show should be canceled. Does Fox produce this show?
I can't for the life of me see why they renewed this with this wacky changes but cancelled Back To You, unless Til Death is free to run on the air.

Does Fox REALLY think that removing the Woodcocks is going to improve the show's ratings? The show is what it is, filler like you all say, with low to middling ratings at best. My thought is someone at Fox really likes the show and is keeping it alive. I watch, but if it got cancelled I wouldn't miss it. Maybe they are thinking that having the new sidekick will bring in African-American viewers?

Major +1. BTY was hitting a decent stride and BTY has just been plugging along very hit or miss, IMO.
