I, like many others, have enjoyed and praised the great work done by some very intelligent and talented folks here (and DEALS-Dbase) The Zipper, Hackman, Tivowebplus, etc, etc). Without the authors of these projects, I know my Directivos would just be running as stock.

So yesterday I was over in Happy Hour (tivocommunity forum) and someone brought up this cool website for sports fans!

Thread Here - http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=392549

Recap - What it does is notify you of when a really good sporting event is unfolding. You select what channels you get, and then tell it what sports you want it to monitor. Then if there is a really good game unfolding like a tied baseball game going into extra innings, or a tied playoff game, it will send a text and/or email notifying you of what channel it is on.

Gregor then had a great idea. IT would be nice if this site went one step further and was somehow integrated to work with Tivo. Instead of just getting a notification, maybe your TIVO could tune to that channel and start recording (if a tuner was free).

I sent a note to the author of the program to see what he thought of this suggestion and invited him over. In 30 minutes he had posted a reply to Happy Hour !!!

He goes on to say - username - mphil14

"Hey guys, I'm Mark and I run areyouwatchingthis.com (just RUWT? for short).

I always joke with my friends that the Holy Grail for RUWT? is getting integrated with Tivos and cable boxes. As useful as getting an SMS alert is, it's still pretty geeky. Having a small on-screen popup, or just being able to have your Tivo start recording automatically is something I think the average sports fan could really get into.

I have an API that's ready to rock, it's just a matter of getting it into the living room. Unfortunately that's easier said than done.

I'm a one-man shop and my funding is by American Express, Capital One, and anyone else crazy enough to give me a credit card, so I don't have the bandwidth to build it myself, but I'dd do absolutely everything I can to help anyone that was interested in hacking together some integration.

I'll keep an eye on this thread or feel free to email me at mark@areyouwatchingthis.com if you want to chat off-thread."
---------------------

I don't know how many of you visit happy hour so I didn't want it to get lost there and fade away before the Underground Gurus could read into it.

So what do you guys think? Is this something that can be done? It would sure be a cool feature to have. Not being a programmer or true hacker like some here I thought if nothing else I could pass this on. Thanks for your time!

Certainly doable.
Toughest part would be best/most secure method of getting notification to the tivo (usually across some form of NAT).

As for text popup, the newest TWP 2.1 has a screentext module that'd let a simple URL throw your message up on screen, so much of the work there is done already.
