I have a Series 1 DirecTivo (Hughes GXCEBOT) in great working condition that I have just replaced with a high definition box.

I remember once upon a time the Series 1 being valuable because of its hackability. Does that still apply, given that HD is ubiquitous and DirecTV has basically abandoned the TiVo platform? I.e., is my Series 1 DirecTiVo just a paperweight now or does it have value to anybody?

The Series 1 is no more hackable than most Series 2 DTiVos. There was a time when that wasn't true, but that's years ago. What value it has is rather low, especially as it doesn't have intrinsic network support.

You can search on eBay to see what they are going for, but it's likely to be in the area of $10-$15.

Thanks Steve - I kind of figured that was the way it is. If anyone in the SF bay area wants to come pick it up for free (live in Belmont, work in SF), let me know before I dump it.
